AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE INFLUENCE OF EFFECTIVE EDUCATIONAL PLANNING ON TEACHERS JOB PERFORMANCE

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1       BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Education has long been regarded as the most important factor in determining economic growth and development in Nigeria and many other developing countries. The Nigerian government believes that improving education standards is the most important thing that can be done to ensure the country’s continued success in the global economy. The need for research in educational planning is driven by the fact that the education sector is rapidly becoming one that is difficult to manage. As a result, the sector is currently confronted with a slew of complex issues that stem from a variety of sources, including students, educators, and authorities both inside and outside the sector.

The classroom, as well as the micro and macro environments, are all included. According to Borg and Gall (2017), educational research has become far more complicated and sophisticated in recent years. Academics have been able to make more useful contributions to educational practice as a result of this. Education is one of the most important tools for emancipating humanity, which is why every society invests heavily in it. This is done to ensure that each generation acquires the necessary abilities, information, and desired attitudes for future survival. However, due to its importance, the degree to which education is assessed is heavily reliant on test results; however, academic achievement also correlates to instructor job performance.

Given this information, Human capital investments are critical to closing the achievement gap between different groups of students. The single most important resource a company can have is human capital, which can be developed through ongoing education. It is recommended that frequent training be promoted in order to rekindle employees’ enthusiasm for doing their jobs properly. This is because regular training inspires individual employees to become committed to the company’s values (Ombuya, 2015). The industrialized world has come to recognize the invaluable value that education brings to the process of nation-building. The suggestion made by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) about the position of teachers in 1966 is an eloquent testimony to this acceptance. In this regard, Ogundele (2000) observed that no nation rises above its educational level, that no educational system outgrows the quality and status of its teachers, and that no nation can afford to pay lip service to its people’s education. These observations were made by Ogundele in light of the fact that no nation rises above the level of its education. Any country that fails to recognize the importance of education risks putting itself in jeopardy. This remark is an attempt to correct the incorrect belief that instructors will be rewarded in heaven. This assertion is supported by the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s National Policy on Education, which can be found in section

9 is the 59th number.

According to FRN (2004), we will continue to prioritize teacher professional development in all of our educational planning because no educational system can excel beyond the quality of its instructors. Furthermore, it was stated in this section that all of our educators, from preschool teachers to university professors, would receive training. The school has the potential to improve society through the agency of teachers; however, in order for this to occur, society must first give the teacher more authority and improve the school environment.

It is undeniable that welfare programs have a significant impact on the overall work performance of educators worldwide. as stated by According to Locke and Latham (2014), a happy worker will produce more, and they use this premise as the foundation for connecting motivation, job satisfaction, and job performance. In order for a company to achieve its goals, one of its top priorities must be to inspire and encourage its employees. Educators, like employees in other businesses, require the renewed energy that comes from being motivated. According to the findings of observations, it appears that when given a favorable working environment, instructors have a tendency to perform effectively. If the working environment is adequately adjusted to a worker’s pleasure — which does not necessarily require more pay — the worker becomes motivated, and as a result, productivity rises. To

In order to boost organizational efficiency and improve the overall quality of organizational services, it is critical to have a staff that is both motivated and competent. The problem and conundrum that many managers face is determining how to generate this type of motivation (Dieleman, 2016). Even those with the necessary information, skills, and talents will perform poorly if they are not motivated to devote their time and effort to the task. This is why motivation is essential (Milapo, 2018). As a result, it is necessary to investigate whether or not effective educational planning affects how well instructors perform their duties.

1.2 DEFINITION OF THE PROBLEM

Despite Despite the fact that factors such as manageable class sizes, adequate student and classroom space, and appropriate class utilization rates ultimately determine teacher productivity and students’ academic performance, the majority of third-world countries’ education systems do not receive adequate funding. This allows those countries’ systems to have manageable class sizes (Dieleman, 2016). As a result, the goal of this study was to determine how much class factors such as class size, student, classroom space, and classroom utilization rate, as well as teacher motivation, influenced the academic performance of secondary school teachers in Lagos Island Local Government. The issues with school buildings as a factor in determining teacher effectiveness may be addressed. This is an excellent summary. The secondary school curriculum is widely acknowledged to fall short of expectations. It is impossible to separate the problem from the instructor’s actions. If the instructors’ morale was not raised, it would lead to careless attitudes toward their output. Unproductive teachers raise students who are disobedient, lack good morals (affective), and are academically illiterate. These students would be unable to use their manipulative abilities to help themselves and the country as a whole (psychomotor). All of these issues will make our youth’s and the nation’s future bleak and hopeless. As a result, this study will look into the impact of effective educational planning on

job performance of teachers

1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The study’s overarching goal is to investigate the impact of effective educational planning on teachers’ job performance. As a result, this research is also aimed at:

i. To investigate how effective educational planning strategies influence teachers’ job performance.

ii. Determine whether on-the-job training for teachers correlates with job performance.

iii. Determine whether instructional planning strategies influence teachers’ job performance.

iv. To assess how teachers’ participation in decision making affects their work performance.

1.4 QUESTIONS FOR RESEARCH

During the course of this work, the following research questions were raised. They are as follows:

i. Do effective educational planning strategies influence teachers’ job performance?

ii. Does on-the-job training for teachers affect their job performance?

iii. Are instructional planning strategies used?

What factors influence teachers’ job performance?

iv. Does teachers’ participation in decision making affect their work performance?

1.5 THE IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY

This study is significant because it will provide information on the significance of an innovative school environment that will improve effective teaching and learning. The study will shed more light on the need for teachers to cultivate a positive attitude in order to maximize productivity.

This work will be extremely beneficial to students, researchers, teachers, and educational policymakers.

The study will be important to the academic community because it will add to the existing literature.

1.6 THE STUDY’S OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this study is to investigate how effective educational planning strategies affect teachers’ job performance. The research will also determine whether

On-the-job training for teachers is related to their job performance. The study will look into whether instructional planning strategies affect teachers’ job performance. Finally, the study will examine how teachers’ participation in decision making affects their work performance. As a result, this study is restricted to Ogun state.

1.7 THE STUDY’S LIMITATIONS

The researchers encountered minor constraints while conducting the study, as with any human endeavor. Inadequate funds tend to impede the researcher’s efficiency in sourcing relevant materials, literature, or information, as well as in the data collection process (internet, questionnaire, and interview), which is why the researcher chose a moderate sample size. Furthermore, the researcher will conduct this study alongside other academic work. As a result of this,

The amount of time spent on research will be cut.

1.8 DEFINITIONS OF TERMS

Educational planning is the identification, development, and implementation of strategies designed to meet the educational needs and goals of students and society in an efficient and effective manner.

Job performance: refers to the act of performing a job.
