ANALYSIS OF CHALLENGES FACING FREEDOMS OF INFORMATION IN NIGERIA

INTRODUCTION

The press is responsible for shaping society. We cannot dispute the fact that the press has a significant impact on society, despite the various critiques leveled at this reality. The majority of journalists are aware of this, therefore they are determined to give society what it wants and needs, even if it means risking their lives.

The reporter is attempting to fulfill the society by telling the citizens of what is occurring around them, whether they are scurrying to meet a politician who has just stepped off an airplane or sailing into a secluded mangrove on a wired boat to assess the degree of damage caused by flooding.

For journalists, their role in news collection and transmission has not always been a happy one. beginning with the first newspapers and journalism in Nigeria.

With the exception of times when the press permits itself to be coerced, used, and controlled by the government to suit its whims and caprices, there has always been a cat-and-mouse interaction between the press and governments, whether military or civilian.

Newspaper censorship and journalist arrest by the government, particularly in third-world nations, is a well-known issue. For instance, the Nigerian government has occasionally prohibited or shut down the majority of the country’s publishing houses for newspapers and magazines.
