ABSTRACT

This paper describes a computerized grade evaluation system that was created to collect, evaluate, and return exam grades to University of Ibadan students. It details the computerized grading system’s design criteria, features, and implementation, as well as reactions from course teachers and staff members. The system has a number of advantages over analog grading methods, including scalability, real-time feedback on grading status, reduced potential for human error in calculating grades, the ability for lecturers to grade remotely and revise their grades after submission, the ability for course administrators to easily review grading results and remove statistical outliers from the score set, and the ability to return both provisional and final grades.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The difficulty in assuring fairness and uniformity in grading, as well as the logistical obstacles associated with distributing, collecting, marking, and returning assignments, tend to rise non-linearly with the number of students enrolled in an academic program. We now live in an information age that is reliant on digital data collected through the internet. The findings of computer-processed data are electronically interpreted in this digital data. Various types of occupations rely heavily on the internet to obtain information, use it, manage it, and convey it to others. Computers make information processing and storage more efficient. Any Nigerian institution’s computerized-assisted grading system will go a long way toward guiding the grading process and compiling final findings. . According to Anglin & Anglin8, employing computer-assisted grading systems during bulk student grading with a high number of students cut grading time in half when compared to traditional hand grading without the system. A computer-assisted grading method can lead to enhanced “validity and correctness of grading – making grading more evenhanded,” increased feedback for students, and increased student satisfaction, in addition to “reduced time in grading assignments,” according to Czaplewski. This study proposes an online automated approach to aid in student grading in order to increase grading fairness, uniformity, and efficiency. Many teachers believe that the time they spend documenting and computing their students’ marks could be better spent on other things, such as planning classes, conducting research, or meeting with their students. With the advancement of computer technology, an increasing number of schools are utilizing a range of grading systems, both off-line and online, that can assist save time on administrative work while allowing instructors to focus on other vital activities. However, the vast majority of schools, particularly small schools, government schools, and schools in rural regions, continue to use the manual technique of recording and computing for student grades.

  STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The general problem statement is to develop a computerized grading evaluation system for the University of Ibadan in order to address the following issues. – To design and develop a comprehensive module that will easily display the student’s grade records, to raise grade automation awareness among schools by reducing (if not eliminating) manual grade-keeping tasks, and finally, to develop a system that will automatically compute the university of Ibadan student’s grade.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The study’s major goal is to create a computerized grading evaluation system for the University of Ibadan. With the following goals in mind –

To design and implement a computerized grade evaluation system that records the name, grade level, and section of each student.
To develop a system that is safe and maintains data integrity while being easy to retrieve.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Teachers will benefit from the automated grade evaluation system since it will make recording information easier and faster. As the number of students in all educational institutions continues to rise, there is a greater demand for teachers. The online Grade Evaluation System is critical to the school’s operations and objectives. Students are graded in order to assess their academic achievement and knowledge. Teachers spend a lot of time using their calculators to precisely compute the grades of their pupils, and in the past, teachers had to manually solve grades using manual computations, which were always full of errors.

For the University of Ibadan, a computerized grade evaluation system will significantly improve the way teachers record and compute grades.

A computerized grade evaluation system for the University of Ibadan will significantly improve how teachers record and compute student grades.

Faculty Teachers: Teachers would be able to record and compute their students’ grades more quickly, reducing their workload and giving them more time to attend to other responsibilities. As a result, their effectiveness as educators would improve.

School Administrators: School administrators no longer have to recalculate each student’s grades to ensure that they are accurate. Student reports, such as grade sheets and class records, can be submitted on time and in a smooth manner.

Students: Students can expect better classes now that their teachers have more time to prepare for them.

  SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The study’s goal is to create and deploy a computerized grade evaluation system for the University of Ibadan.

 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The main constraint of this study is that it deals with student outcomes and data, which are highly sensitive resources that cannot be shared with the general public. Finding and obtaining student information for this study was also a huge challenge.
