ABSTRACT

Text-to-speech and related read audio programs are frequently used to help pupils improve their reading comprehension skills. A PDF to audio system is a screen reader application that is intended and built for audio communication. PDFs were created to reliably present and exchange documents. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) maintains PDF as an open standard document format (ISO). One of the most convenient methods for electronic communication and information transmission is the document format. As a result, it is necessary to make information more accessible to readers on screen via audio. Links and buttons, form fields, audio or sounds, video, and business logic are all included in PDF documents. The PDF to audio technology will read aloud (say) material on screens in a variety of languages. The researcher proposes to design and construct a PDF to audio system using HTML, CSS, and PHP in this study.

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Dr. John Warnock, co-founder of Adobe, launched the paper-to-advanced digital revolution in 1991 with The Camelot Project. The goal was to give the expanding number of digital users the capacity to capture documents from any program, transfer electronic versions of these documents everywhere, and read and print them on any device. Camelot had evolved into PDF by 1992.

It is now a document format that is trusted by businesses and organizations all around the world. PDF, or Portable Document Format, was the first file format of its sort to be able to store and distribute content and images while maintaining the original document’s formatting. It doesn’t matter what kind of software, hardware, or platform it’s being viewed on. Warnock’s Team Camelot grew to include engineers with a varied spectrum of coding talents to design the platform-agnostic file format, which was inspired by the concept of digitizing the materials of the Library of Congress. Not only did they require a file format that was compatible with the most popular platforms, but they also needed developers who had worked with printer drivers before. This extra feature eventually served to raise PDF’s popularity around the world, as users could choose to ‘Save as PDF’ rather than print the document. The team spent over a year developing the first version of the format, but it wouldn’t be released to the public until June 1993, coinciding with the release of Adobe Acrobat Version 1.0. Acrobat was published to great acclaim.  STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

With PDF being the most widely used document format on the planet, there is a demand for text in PDF formats to be converted into audio signals. These can be used for a variety of things, including educational purposes, car navigation, railway station announcements, telecommunications response services, and e-mail reading. Furthermore, those with vision difficulties are unable to view or read PDF files, which is a significant disadvantage. This study looks into the issues in converting PDF text to speech. One is how to make synthetic voice in PDF-based text sound more natural in an audio system.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The goal of this study is to design and implement a PDF to Audio system that will aid accessibility and quick text-to-voice conversion of PDF documents.

The following are the study’s objectives:

Create a system that converts PDF text to audio for ease document comprehension.
A system for quickly detecting and converting PDF files to audio.
To provide a method that enables persons with reading difficulties to transform PDF text into audio files with ease.
To create and implement a system to help students improve their reading comprehension skills.

  MOTIVATION OF THE STUDY

Presenting reading material orally rather than in a traditional paper presentation format increases users’ inability to decode reading material, potentially preventing students with reading disabilities from better comprehending written texts. Oral materials can be presented using a variety of technologies (e.g., text-to-speech, reading pens, audiobooks). Text was already available verbally through books-on-tape and human readers. It is necessary to create and execute a text-to-speech technology that will be widely used in educational settings ranging from elementary school to colleges. The benefits of text-to-speech and related technologies for oral presentation of material on reading comprehension for children with reading difficulties will be improved with the introduction of the PDF to Audio system.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The goal of the study is to construct a PDF to Audio system in order to increase the use of PDF documents and provide a more flexible audio speech system.

 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The following constraints were discovered during the research study’s development:

There is a scarcity of research materials at the school library and on the internet.
The expense of setting up the system is considerable because it necessitates the use of a complex programming language.
Taking care of schoolwork and conducting research at the same time.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Sound is most usually referred to as audio because it is sent as a signal.

Speech is the ability or expression of thoughts and feelings through articulate sounds.

Oral – referring to the oral rather than written transfer of information or literature.
