GREEN BUILDING AS INNOVATION IN NIGERIA CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Abstract

Green building as an innovation in Nigeria’s construction industry is experiencing technological growth similar to the entire industrial revolution. It shows the level of progress achieved so far in the construction industry. Building materials and processes are changing in response to various environmental concerns, globalization, increased competition, advances in information technology, computer-aided design, and more.

This project work describes some of the exciting opportunities being explored in the construction industry in Nigeria. The innovations are by no means exhaustive, but we are designing buildings using more streamlined, beautiful and smart materials. It serves as an introduction to some ideas that could revolutionize the way we build and build. The use of new materials and new technologies will make buildings cheaper to operate, more durable, and more attractive to tenants. These new processes also reduce the environmental impact of the finished building.

chapter One

1.0 Introduction

“It’s not easy going green” – Kermit the Frog (1972). There is no single definition of what constitutes a green building, but all materials and systems are designed with a focus on their integration into the whole to minimize the impact on the occupants and their environment. can be broadly defined as This includes topics such as site selection, material selection, energy efficiency, water conservation, construction waste management and indoor air quality. Green refers to design and construction methods that minimize impact on natural resources and the environment. Buildings that employ best practices in environmental technology to optimize the use of natural resources and create a clean, cost-effective working environment. The green building concept has the following attributes:

1. Eco-friendly structure and environment.

2. We use minimal natural resources and protect them for future generations.

3. Sustainability, i.e. having internal means of production

Resources as much as possible.

4. Energy saving with smart devices. 5. Use of recyclable materials.

6. Friendly environment, work practices and discipline.

7. We build high-quality buildings that are economically efficient.

Innovation in the construction industry in Nigeria calls for a holistic approach to building design and construction. When creating a sustainable building, we need to consider all the resources that go into the building, such as materials, fuel, and user contributions.

To create an environmentally friendly building, many conflicting issues and requirements must be resolved. Every design decision has an environmental impact. Green buildings emphasize health, environmental protection and resource saving performance throughout their life cycle. These new focal points extend and complement traditional building concerns.

1.1 Research background

A fundamental objective of green building as an innovation in the Nigerian construction industry is to have the ability to adapt, respond and exploit the opportunities offered by natural ventilation, lighting, heating and cooling, thus reducing imported energy demand. is reduced. But green buildings use advanced monitoring technology that can alert residents to impending disruptions, saving them costly maintenance later. By providing an environment that can adapt to individual or collective needs, green buildings create a welcoming atmosphere and help increase the productivity of those who live and work there.

An environmentally friendly building must be robust in its design to accommodate the changing needs, moods and preferences of an individual or organization. Against this background, the benefits of green buildings must be measured by their ecological, economic and social impact. 1.2 Problem Description

Traditionally, buildings are seen as passive elements of the workplace and home. Today’s innovations are designed to be dynamic structures that support people and evolving technology to make the physical environment more comfortable, interactive, safe, productive and cost-effective. I am aiming. Traditional building materials and other construction/industrial wastes are recycled economically and profitably for the construction industry in Nigeria.

To persuade the Nigerian government and construction industry to recognize the need to have less environmental impact and encourage the use of more environmentally friendly construction materials, processes and activities to initiate changes in material selection The question now is how can these be fully accepted as innovations in the Nigerian construction industry.

1.3.1 Objectives and Objectives

1.3.1 Goals:
Construction industry experts believe that conventional building development and practices are unsustainable and that green buildings and construction can significantly reduce the environmental impact of the construction industry.

As such, green building concepts are now becoming part of standard practice around the world, especially in Europe and the United States. Despite its inherent potential, its development is very promising.

Project work therefore seeks to examine and analyze relevant problems and provide solutions.

1.3.2 Purpose

This proposal included the following objectives:

1. Determine whether a green building is an environmentally friendly structure and is environmentally friendly.

2. Encourage regular use of recyclable materials.

3. Create a commercially viable, high-quality building. 4. Employ environmentally sound and healthy work practices in both construction and use.

1.4 Research question

1. What are the similarities, differences and components of green buildings?

2. Are Green Buildings More Expensive?

3. Do green buildings minimize pollution and damage to the environment?

1.5 Scope and Limitations

A major challenge of green building as an innovation in the construction industry in Nigeria is the apparent lack of knowledge of the concept of green building among the built environment professionals. This knowledge gap hinders the ability of architectural professionals to fully apply their knowledge to the design and construction of environmentally friendly buildings.

This project work aims to raise awareness of the greater value of green buildings and their components.

Cheaper and less polluting than conventional ones. However, this project could not cover all aspects of green building as an innovation. Just some exciting possibilities being explored in our time.

This work is by no means exhaustive, but highlights the potential to revolutionize the way buildings are designed and constructed, using materials that are environmentally friendly, inexpensive, durable, tenant-attractive and intelligent. It serves as an introduction to some ideas. 1.6 Basis and Significance of the Survey

Statistics show that the pace of change and innovation is now such that the construction industry, like the entire industrial revolution, witnesses technological growth every 12 months. This shows the level the construction industry has reached so far and its professionalism in green building effectiveness.

Building structures and designs are changing in response to various environmental concerns, globalization, reduced maintenance costs, and advanced information technology. This project work describes some of the opportunities being explored in the construction industry in Nigeria.

1.7 Definition of key terms

a Intelligent building:
– A smart building is a building that contains technological communication systems that do everything from controlling the building’s environment, lighting, and security, to maintaining high-speed data networks and backing up his generators.

B. Green Buildings:
– These are buildings that employ environmental engineering best practices to optimize the use of natural resources and create a clean, cost-effective working environment.
