HUMAN RESOURCES AND TRAINING AS A REQUIREMENT FOR QUALITY EDUCATION IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In recent years, it has become widely accepted that developing human capital is critical to the overall growth of any nation. Quality education is the most valuable gift Nigeria can give its people because it opens the door to prosperity and progress. The importance of human capital creation cannot be overstated because it serves as a catalyst for change toward a brighter future by allowing individuals to realize their full knowledge and skill potential. It is obvious that the world’s successful democracies are those whose education systems produce well-educated individuals who understand what life entails and are not ethnically biased (Anya, 2022).

According to Obike (2022), learning a job or pursuing a career is nearly impossible.

and stay in it for a long time with essentially unmodified skills. This is especially true in a complex and dynamic institution like a school, which must adapt to changing social demands and instructional strategies. As a result, regardless of how good pre-service, pre-preparatory, and qualified school personnel are when hired, they should be developed personally and professionally. Continually and consistently (Obanya, 2022).

In order to provide a quality learning environment for students, the school system requires well-developed personnel, as the adage “no school is greater than its teachers” states. Additionally, changes in position and job requirements within the school system necessitate personnel development. It is critical to cultivate educators who communicate directly with students.

Only then can students be taught relevant and sufficient information, leading to the ultimate achievement of education’s goal (Nwagbara, 2022).

Physical, social, intellectual, and mental training are essential not only for increasing a company’s output but also for fostering employee development. As a result, training can be contextualized in a way that is useful to school leaders. However, knowledge is the capacity, skills, understanding, and information that every human requires in order to operate successfully and efficiently (Garuba, 2022).

Human resources, according to Olaniyan and Lucas (2022), are the most valuable assets of any company. Nothing can be accomplished without human resources, even with the best machinery, materials, and money. Abiodun (2022) defines training as the systematic process of learning.

Development of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for an individual to perform a specific activity or job competently. It can manifest itself in a variety of ways, both on and off the job; in organizations. According to Martins, staff training and development is a work activity that can significantly contribute to an organization’s overall performance and profitability (2022).

As a result, the efficacy and success of an organization are determined by the people who comprise and operate within it. Workers must therefore acquire the necessary skills and knowledge in order to fulfill their responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to the achievement of organizational goals. Organizations such as educational institutions, in recognition of this reality, implement final training and development programs for all levels of their workforce.

According to (2022), the goal of training and development is to improve technical, human conceptual, and management competencies in order to advance individual and organizational progress. Furthermore, Egbe (2022) proposed that training and development is an ongoing process. The need to know how to lead others and the need to execute one’s work effectively are adequate justifications for training and development, and the need to achieve the organization’s goals of increased production makes it an urgent need.

1.2 THE PROBLEM’S STATEMENT

Secondary school students’ poor performance on internal and external assessments has sparked widespread outrage. According to Akubiro and Joshua (2022), there have recently been claims that the quality of education has deteriorated. It is clear from research findings and popular beliefs.

Secondary schools are lacking in resources such as instructors, classrooms, and instructional materials. Clearly, teacher quality is low because they are not provided with training and opportunities for advancement. The overarching issue at hand is how to improve teacher quality and how this can be accomplished.

1.3 THE STUDY’S OBJECTIVES

The primary goal of this research is to look into human resources and training as a requirement for high-quality secondary education. Other specific goals of this research include:

i. Determine whether human resources and training have an impact on secondary school education quality.

ii. Determine whether there is a link between teacher quality and secondary school education quality.

iii. To determine how human resources and

Secondary school education can be influenced by training.

iv. To learn about the challenges of human resources and secondary school training.

1.4 QUESTIONS FOR RESEARCH

This study will address the following research questions:

i. Do human resources and training have an impact on secondary school education quality?

ii. Is there a link between teacher quality and secondary school education quality?

iii. What are the effects of human resources and training on secondary school education?

iv. What are the challenges of human resources and secondary school training?

1.5 THE STUDY’S IMPORTANCE

Teachers will benefit from this study because they will recognize the need to acquire new knowledge and skills, which will improve their instructional approaches and raise the quality of their instruction.

Both teaching and learning are involved. The government will also recognize the importance of in-service training for teachers and will be willing to fund training programs to help teachers improve their work performance in the direction of excellent education.

Our educational system’s output will be of higher quality, which will improve the quality of our economy and thus benefit society. Our secondary schools will see a significant increase in student success as a result of tutoring from high-quality teachers who are up to date on educational trends and innovations.

1.6 STUDY OBJECTIVES

This study focuses on human resources and training as a requirement for high-quality secondary education. This study specifically seeks to determine whether human resources and training are adequate.

has an impact on quality education in secondary schools, determining whether there is a relationship between teachers quality and quality education in secondary schools, finding out ways human resources and training can impact education in secondary schools and finding out the challenges of human resources and training in secondary schools.

Respondents for this study will come from selected secondary schools in Akure, Ondo State.

1.7 THE STUDY’S LIMITATIONS

The researcher encountered minor constraints while conducting the study, as with any human endeavor. Inadequate funds tend to impede the researcher’s efficiency in locating relevant materials, literature, or information and in the data collection process, which is why the researcher resorted to a limited sample size. More

As a result, the researcher conducted this study alongside other academic work. As a result, the time spent researching will be reduced.

Furthermore, the case study method used in the study presented some difficulties to the investigator, such as the possibility of biases and poor judgment of issues. To overcome the challenges, the investigator relied on general procedural principles such as justice, fairness, objectivity in observation and recording, and evidence weighing.

1.8 TERM DEFINITION

Human resources are the people who make up an organization’s, business sector’s, industry’s, or economy’s workforce. A more specific concept is human capital, which refers to the knowledge and skills that individuals possess.

Training is the process of teaching or developing oneself.
