IMPACT OF PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT ON THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF BUSINESS STUDY

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A professional, according to the advanced learner dictionary, is a person associated with a career that requires specific training and expertise, or a high level of education. While misconduct refers to improper professional behavior or poor management. Professional misconduct is currently defined as exceeding the authorized scope of one’s profession (Adebayor 2014).

Furthermore, business studies refers to the study of money and business management. What are the potential consequences of professional misconduct in the teaching and learning of business studies in junior high schools? Without such norms or ethical perspectives, professional skill may be misapplied or misdirected, and the school will not achieve its aims and objectives. Professional ethics benefits the teaching and learning process.

As a result, it is critical that instructors follow the guiding principles of the teaching profession. The trend has become so extreme and rapid that it has an impact on both student and teacher performance (Adebayor 2014).

Clearly, teachers are imagemakers, and their students are tomorrow’s leaders; as a result, the high and rapid rate of professional misconduct will likely spread to the larger society. Professional misconduct in the context of the teaching profession is defined as a pattern of unethical or indecent behavior displayed by any member of the teaching profession. These are well-established standards and patterns of behavior designed to promote the operational integrity of any formal organization, such as schools. Members are required to follow this pattern when performing official duties.

Peremode (2002) (2002)

“A professional code of ethics refers to the specific set of ideas, values, and standards of individual professional conduct in relation to professional obligations and responsibilities, as authorized and enforced by membership in a professional association,” according to the definition. Peremode goes on to say that in most cases, a professional code of ethics governs the proper relationship between practitioners (Teachers) and clients (Students) in order to protect the clients. Furthermore, the code specifies acceptable practitioner interaction for mutual protection.

Hoyle’s (2004) (2004) Similarly, the code of ethics of a professional educator addresses the teacher’s interactions with students, parents, the general public, other teachers, administrators, supervisors, and the educational profession.

Barrup (2003) agreed that an ideal teacher must have a bachelor’s degree.

positive rapport with pupils without violating the ethics of the profession.

The instructors could now ensure the absence of professional misconduct because they were aware of their role and how to carry it out. How can business teachers use this advice to teach students about the consequences of professional misbehavior?

According to research, for decades, teachers have failed to emphasize the consequences of professional misconduct, and as a result, the majority of the fruits of their labor, i.e. their former students, have not been successful in their business facilities: some have ruined their businesses due to bribes, and companies have collapsed due to the infidelity of management board members. Some might argue that this is a self-inflicted issue, but

Consider the case of a toddler who does not understand what fire is but can learn if explained to him; such a child would not have been burned if he had been warned about the dangers of touching fire. The same is true for a student who has been taught to be strict, loyal, or truthful in business dealings with others (Barrup 2003).

What does business studies mean in terms of employment? Business studies are used for more than just buying and selling; they are also used in manufacturing, contracts, government services, and even education. Any job that requires spending money is an economic one. The business profession combines

Among the other disciplines are banking, education, engineering, construction, accounting, and economics.

According to US education law 6530, a teacher must inform his students of the consequences of lying, accepting bribes, failing to perform his duties, obtaining a forged license, and practicing outside the authorized scope of his profession (Hoyle 2004).

It is well known that both the commercial and public sectors have been plagued by corruption, which has harmed the nation’s economy. To completely eliminate this, business studies-trained professors must pay close attention to the subject of business studies and inform students about the benefits and consequences of following business regulations.

Furthermore, the researcher conducted this investigation in conjunction with other scholarly endeavors. Furthermore, because only a small number of respondents completed the research instrument, the findings cannot be generalized to other secondary schools outside the state. Whatever the case may be,

All aspects of the investigation were reduced to ensure the best outcomes and the most productive research.
