Production Of Bioethanol From Elephant Grass (Pennisetum purpureum) Stem

Abstract

The product ofbio-ethanol from Elephant lawn( Pennisetun purpureum) stem was carried out using giant lawn stem as a feedstock and a combination of Aspergillus niger at0.2( w/ v)0.4( w/ v),0.6( w/ v),0.8( w/ v) and 1( w/ v) attention and

Saccharomyces cerevisiae( nectar’s incentive) at0.5( w/ v), 1( w/ v),1.5( w/ v), 2( w/ v) and2.5( w/ v) attention as cells by contemporaneous saccharification and turmoil( SSF). The study determined the most suitablepre-treatment system from the following pretreatment styles 1M H2SO4,0.1 M H2SO4, 1M NaOH,0.2 M NaOH, Boiling, and 3M NH4OH. IM NaOHpre-treatment gave the loftiest cellulose and smallest lignin

content. The goods of temperature at 25oC, 30oC, 35oC, 40oC and 45oC; pH values of3.5,4.0,4.5,5.0,5.5,6.0 and6.5; substrate attention values of 1( w/ v), 2( w/ v), 3( w/ v), 4( w/ v) and 5( w/ v); flyspeck size range of 53- 106µm, 106- 150µm, 150- 250µm, 250- 300µm and 300- 425µm; and cell lading combination ofAspergillus niger at0.2( w/ v)0.4( w/ v),0.6( w/ v),0.8( w/ v), 1( w/ v) attention and

Saccharomyces cerevisiae( nectar’s incentive) at0.5( w/ v), 1( w/ v),1.5( w/ v), 2( w/ v),

( w/ v) on the hydrolysis and turmoil process were delved to gain optimum conditions of turmoil. The optimum conditions of turmoil were attained at temperature of 350C, pH value of5.5, substrate attention of 30g/ l, flyspeck size range of 250- 300µm and Aspergillus niger to incentive rate of0.6/1.5 after 72 hours of turmoil time. Also substrate attention of 30g/ l, gave loftiest ethanol attention of23.4 g/ l and a yield of 78. From the exploration, the kinetic Parameters which are response constant k and order of response n were estimated to be8.172×10- 8l/g.s and 2 independently.

Chapter One

Preface

Preamble

Energy vacuity, force and use play a central part in the way societies organize themselves, from individual weal to social and artificial development. By extension, energy availability and cost is a determining factor for the provident, political and social interrelations among nations. Considering energy sources, mortal society has dramatically increased the use of fossil energies in the once 50 times in a way that the most successful husbandry are large consumers of oil painting. still, geopolitical factors related to security of oil painting force, high oil painting prices and serious environmental enterprises, urged by global warming, the use of petrol for transportation which accounts for one- third of hothouse gas emigrations( Wyman, 1996), have led to a drive towards drop in its consumption. Indeed, the world’s strongest husbandry are deeply committed to the development of technologies aiming at the use of renewable sources of energy. Within this docket, the negotiation of liquid energy gasoline by renewable ethanol is of foremost significance. Biomass – deduced ethanol represents one of the further promising goods for long term sustainability of transportation energies( buddy and Overend, 2001).
