ABSTRACT

The project examines the impact of the Endsars protest on Nigerian youths’ political interests. The project’s goals included establishing the impact of the endsars protest on nigerian youths’ political interests, determining the relationship between the endsars protest and youths’ political interests, and determining whether or not youths’ political interests are gender-based. The sample size was calculated after a total of 134 respondents were chosen from the population figure. Structured questionnaires were sent randomly to some selected youths in Alagbado local government area, Lagos state, Nigeria, to collect data. According to the study’s findings, the majority of respondents believe that the Endsars protest has a substantial impact on the political interests of Nigerian youths, and that there is a link between the two.  SARS, or Special Anti-Robbery Squad, was founded in 1992 as a special police force to combat the rising number of armed robberies and kidnappings for ransom by criminal elements operating across Nigeria (Vanguard, 23 December 2017). The unit’s success rested on its secrecy and style of operation, as it was originally set up to operate autonomously in order to target criminal groupings. SARS personnel dressed in civilian clothes and driving unmarked vehicles carried out covert operations to assist police in responding to community distress calls about armed robberies and other major crimes. SARS officials, on the other hand, have been accused of severe human rights breaches, including arbitrary arrests, torture, rape, extortion, wrongful detention, and extrajudicial killings.
