ABSTRACT

 

A temperature control outfit an “ Armfield model was refurbished. The methodology employed were to descry the pulty corridor of the outfit especially in the sump where leakages were observed. In the form, the water in the sump was drained off, erosion and rusting in the tank were scraped off, the sump was washed and allowed to dry. A homogenous admixture of crown padding and hardener mixed in the rate of5.1 was used to cover the inner face of the tank.

 

Antirust protection was applied each over the inner face of the tank in order to avoid farther erosion and rusting. Metallic corridor of the outfit including the sump were painted with carlux 842 makeup so as to avoid the development of pricklings, pittings, roughness or cracks which promote erosion when in contact with air, water or chemical attack. Pipes, air- hoses, dips, nuts and values of the temperature control outfit were also serviced.

 

After refurbishment, the outfit worked effectively when operated and it’s recommended that it be used for farther practical in the airman factory laboratory.

Background Of The Study

 

Armfield temperature control appara( tus is a airman factory scale outfit for the study of heat transfer, process control fluid medium and thermodynamics by chemical Engineering scholars in colorful institutions of advanced literacy.

 

The outfit consists of two heaters, with voltage between 220- 240 and 6kw of power. The heaters has thermostatic range from 380C- 82C0, heat transfer area( A) of the heat exchanger is0.64 m2(0.059 fts2) ALFA- LAVAL. Four thermo walls, each fitted at the bay and outlet points on the heat exchanger for insertion of thermometers for temperature dimension. It has a sump tank of capacity of 70 litres, three inflow measures( Rotameters), two of variable area type, a pump of power0.23 kw and capacity of 55litres/ min at1.5 m and 9 litres/ min at 6m. a control stopcock( air controller) of ½ inch, PID( Honey well) regulator, two pen map archivist, temperature detector, electronic regulator etc. as the name applies it’s used to control or measure temperature.

 

In diligence in order to avoid wastes during product of goods, indeed in airman factory where product of good are in small scale, there’s need for control system which gives more stable( Livery) process and advanced quality products. Certain variables like temperature applied to fluid or rather mandated from body, fluid inflow rate, pressure etc which causes loss of precious accoutrements during product. Some of the below mentioned variable can be corrected using temperature control outfit.

 

Heat exchange is one of the most frequent operations substantially in process diligence. Through the refurbishment it increase the plasticity of the outfit( outfit) the degree of delicacy and perfection as well the perceptivity of the outfit. It improves the performance of the outfit, maximize effectiveness and bring error to minimum.

 

Through the conservation or refurbishment of the outfit, volume/ quality control, cost effectiveness, strength of material and dragged outfit/ factory life span can be attained.

This involves detecting the defective factors of the temperature control outfit and the repairing which includes general servicing, flushing of the sump tank. To reduce fouling, scraping off the eroded corridor, filling of the oohing corridor with padding and oil of the sump tank. icing that there would be no leakage either by values or pipes when running the outfit and the effectiveness of the circulating pump.
