CORONA VIRUS IN NIGERIA

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

In the event of a disease outbreak in a country, the government, through the Ministry of Health, is responsible for rising to the challenges by allocating adequate funds and establishing facilities to combat the virus, as well as non-governmental organizations and other national and international health and co-operation. Organizations must create awareness through the media and other forms of communication by informing the public about the causes, signs, and symptoms of the disease, as well as preventive and protective measures against the disease, and the outbreak of Corona virus diseases (COVID-19) required the same procedure.

The corona virus COVID-19 outbreak has unquestionably caught the globe off guard and unprepared, leaving the affected countries to endure the horrific death toll.

Any issue-awareness program simply provides extensive information on the subject at hand. Television is a primary means of disseminating information to the general public, and the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) is one of the many channels tasked with transmitting this information via television. NTA has a large number of branches and substations all around the country. Television is an effective medium for disseminating information, concepts, and ideas to both general and targeted audiences. It contributes significantly to the advancement of public health.

goals

The Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) has consistently performed admirably in the areas of information dissemination, public education, and advocacy, particularly at important periods and events.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM.

Community understanding about Corona infection risk factors and protective measures that individuals can adopt. As a result, the government, charitable organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other agencies have spent a lot of time and money creating Corona virus awareness campaigns, which include broadcasting messages and jingles on radio and television stations, as well as distributing posters throughout communities as part of a long-term plan to inform the public and help prevent further infections. Others include holding Corona-related seminars and workshops, as well as going out into the streets and villages to educate the public about how to respond to the outbreak. NTA’s need for Corona virus knowledge in the Niger Delta region needs research for various program awareness initiatives such as jingles and weekly bulletins.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The goal of the study is to look into the function of television in educating the public about how to prevent the spread of the corona virus in Nigeria. It is specifically targeted at:

To investigate the various methods for preventing the spread of the corona virus.

Examine how television stations educate the public about ways to avoid the spread of the Corona virus.

Examine the extent to which television authorities are involved in teaching the public about covid-19 prevention.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study as a whole will contribute to the body of knowledge. It will specifically educate government and privately owned television stations about the importance of facilitating regular knowledge of Covid-19 preventive actions. It will allow media presenters to come up with innovative and development-oriented programming in order to keep the spread of the Corona virus to a bare minimum. It will provide the general public with firsthand information on the importance of following the safety precautions that are advertised on television stations for their own personal health benefit, as this will help to prevent the spread of the corona virus.

RESEARCH QUESTION

1. What steps are being taken to stop the corona virus from spreading?

2. How does a television station educate viewers on how to avoid the spread of the Corona virus?

What is the extent to which television authorities are involved in teaching the public about covid-19 prevention measures?

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

Using Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) as a case study, the study will look at the function of television in educating the public about preventive measures against the spread of the corona virus in Nigeria.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

Financial constraints– A lack of funds impedes the researcher’s efficiency in locating relevant materials, literature, or information, as well as in the data gathering procedure (internet, questionnaire and interview).
Time constraint– The researcher will be working on this subject while also doing other academic tasks. As a result, the amount of time spent on research will be reduced. Another constraint is time, as this research had to be completed while also juggling other academic obligations, making it impossible to conduct this study in a larger, more representative sample.
