Introduction

1.1  Background to the Study

Profit maximization was seen as a major challenge and overarching economic motive for all companies. A stable socio-political and investment environment for companies to draw on resources from the local environment to pursue their profit goals and to operate successfully. If a business organization depends on society for its existence, it makes sense to adapt and maintain this environment culturally to ensure its continuity. In this regard, the orientation of modern business managers is changing to reflect the increasingly important interdependence between organizations and their environments, and their active involvement in the welfare and environment in which companies operate. There is a growing public attraction that and increase their profits.

However, the purpose of starting a business is to provide competitive goods and services to consumers and society at large. However, this does not mean that we have completed our commitment to people, especially the host communities in which we do business and operate. While there are no laws about what kind of services host communities should receive from businesses, host communities have at least a moral obligation to provide hosts. They do this by helping develop infrastructure such as the necessary access roads, and by helping to provide quality water for livelihoods and electricity for local residents. Other forms of service that can be provided to young members of this community, and of course employment to those who have graduated from college.

1.2         Statement of the Problem

1.3       Scope of the Study 


The scope of corporate social responsibility associated with this project focuses on the commitments companies voluntarily make to themselves to ensure the survival of the system in which they thrive. 1.4        Objective of the Study

This research work was carried out with the following main objectives:

b. to research and determine the extent of the benefits that the paper company has contributed to the development of Port Harcourt in accordance with its corporate social responsibility;

c. Investigate the causes of corporate nonchalant attitudes toward corporate social responsibility for the development of host communities.

This study aims to provide answers to these questions.

a. Does Corporate Social Responsibility Promote Community Development?

b. How has the company fulfilled its social responsibility in the community?

c. Know the scope of the implementation of this policy, the issues, controversies and difficulties companies face in fulfilling their social responsibilities in their host communities. 1.6 Research hypothesis

1.7       Significance of the Study

This study is important in that it provides a basis for further research on the topic by providing relevant data.

This research is important because companies are being criticized for ethical, moral, economic and political reasons. Corporations have also helped shape our physical environment, with pollutants such as Shell’s toxic waste buried in abandoned factories. Solid waste was dumped into lakes, seas and rivers. 1.8       Limitation of the Study

The data used in writing this research paper were obtained from both primary and secondary sources. The authors of this project work faced several problems in gathering information from various sources.

Initially, the biggest problem he faced in gathering information for this project work was financial constraints, as the cost of surfing the Internet was high for him.
