An Assessment Of The Marxist Doctrine Of Alienation And It’s Relevance To The Nigerian Society

Abstract

One of the abecedarian issues of utmost socio- political debate in recent times is ALIENATION, which means “ disgruntlement ”. This essay will interpret the doctrine of disaffection in its origin until the period of Karl Marx. important attention will be concentrated on the way Marx conceived disaffection, its causes, types and goods. Attempt will be made to use this doctrine to illustrate the circumstances of the maturity of Nigerians, who are generally poor.

The approach will be a theoretical exposition ofK. Marx proposition of disaffection. An attempt will be made to alternate the arguments for and against the Marxist doctrine of disaffection, and how it tallies with the Nigerian society. This will aim at correcting the imperfect systems of the Nigerian society. Then it’ll be explained, whether the suffering and the inhuman conditions that most Nigerians pass through can be nominated, “ disaffection ” following Marxtheory. However, the question will also be; how does the Nigerian system alienates its citizens?

If this doctrine is applied to the Nigerian society.

The purpose of this essay, is to show whether there’s any connections between the Marxist doctrine of disaffection and the condition of the average Nigerian worker. Then, I’ll examine the result proffered by Karl Marx. I’ll also show that though his disaffection doctrine seems to interpret the conditions of numerous Nigerians, the causes and result proffered by Marx can not be acclimated to the Nigerian society. To put it precisely, the result proffered by Karl Marx isn’t workable nor attainable in the Nigerian system. Eventually, I shall propose that disaffection can only be eased within the environment of solidarity.

Chapter One

Preface

Background Of The Study

It has come decreasingly common to hear life in the present age characterized in term of alienation1 The conception of disaffection has come an nearly compulsive concern in areas of socio- political gospel, as a condition of man in this ultramodern age. The subject matter has come the insulated existent. The existent is disgruntled from other people, the fruit of his labour, and his tone. The alienating condition of ultramodern man shows that we’re brazened by the symptoms of a morbid and acute social sickness.

In this present Nigerian society, there has been laments of oppressions exploitation and dehumanization. Nigerians are exploited by fellow Nigerians, hence,M.I. Akimbo blatted, “ we have done veritably estimable wrong to ourselves in this land ”.2 therefore, a lot of thinkers now name Nigerian workers as alienated beings. The question, which seems to be cropping up, is whether some Nigerians are really alienated and marginalized?

Statement Of The Problem

The topmost ontological wrong that can be to being in its substance, actuality and expression is disaffection.3 There has been colorful attempts to interpret the conditions of the Nigerian workers following the introductory tenets of the Marxist doctrine of disaffection, over the times. The worst part, is the attempt to proffer results to the alienating conditions of Nigerian workers following the pattern of Karl Marx’s- revolution.

The problems created by disaffection are manifold. There’s a problem of man’s brutality to man dehumanization, as instanced in the way the rich treat the poor in Nigeria. There’s also the disgruntlement of some Nigerians; from the fruits of their labour, from musketeers and from family. Added to the below is the exploitation of the coffers in the Niger Delta to develop the northern region of Nigeria. This exploitation is in all regions; employers exploiting workers, the autocrats exploiting the ruled, the church men exploiting their members, some speakers in the university exploiting their scholars and so on. How do we attune disaffection with global call for freedom and mortal quality? How can man exercise himself completely in a society that’s characterized with all forms of disaffection.

Purpose Of The Study

The end of this exploration among others is to assess the doctrine of disaffection and the operations of the results proffered with reference to Karl Marx, and why this results can not be applied to the Nigerian society. An attempt will be made to give an explication of a workable result to address the alienating conditions in Nigeria.

Significance Of The Study

The significance of this exploration work is bipolar, originally, it’ll serve as assessment of the important esteemed doctrine of disaffection enunciated by Karl Marx, secondly it’ll serve as mindfulness to numerous Nigerians that there’s a workable result to this alienating condition which characterize their society.

It’ll also produce the mindfulness that the results to the problems of disaffection in Nigeria can not be located in the results proffered by Karl Marx.

Compass Of The Study

This design shall be limited to the doctrine of disaffection and its results as enunciated by Karl Marx. This isn’t to neglect what other proponents have said about the conception of disaffection. This work will also attend to disaffection of Nigerian workers and the workable results to these estrangements or disgruntlement. The part of the labour unions ’ strikes will be examined to see if it’s justified. The responses of the Nigerian government to the conditions of the labour class won’t be neglected.

Also, the connection ornon-applicability of the results proffered by Karl Mark will be examined critically to show how workable it’s in the Nigerian environment.

Methodology

My approach to this exploration work will be critical and logical( a system where the issue at stake will be deconstructed and estimated to show its good and had rates.

To this end, thus, accoutrements to execute the exploration will be gotten from the library. This isn’t to undermine the significance of applicable books gotten from musketeers, applicable class notes and interviews.
