CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF IMPROVING THE DELIVERY ACCURACY IN CARGO HANDING

Abstract

This is study on critical analysis of perfecting the delivery delicacy in weight running with Arik Airline weight services as a case study. The studyx-rays weight running in Nigeria and colorful ways of perfecting delivery delicacy in weight running using Arik Airline weight handling services as a case study. colorful factors make weight running delivery unachievable. The Experimenter end is to critically analyzeways of perfecting weight handling delivery delicacy in Arik Airline. The Experimenter ideal is to examine the causes of detainments and weight damage in weight running services at the airfields and explore ways of perfecting weight running services at airfields. In this course of carrying this exploration work colorful ways or styles of data collection were used. They include questionnaires, interviews and compliances. A sample size of 100 workers in Arik Airline was used and chosen among the number of department/ sections of worker using Linkert scale. The experimenter makes use of two suppositions in this study to dissect the exploration design. The experimenter made use of Chi- Square in testing the formulated thesis. The experimenter used the descriptive statistical tools( tables, numbers and probabilities) in the presenting and assaying the data generated from this study. From the analysis, the experimenter finds out that there are ultramodern ways of perfecting weight running services at Arik Airlines. The experimenter thus recommendsthat technology need of weight carriers be reviewed from time to time and that carriers takemulti-modal transportation cognizance in their delivery strategy.

Chapter One

Preface

Background of the Study

Air weight handling operations can be described as the provision of logistics in easing the carriage of weight by air. In substance, it entails making available the right and necessary moxie with outfit to perform the right task in a timely, safe, secure and cost effective manner. According to ICAO Doc.9569c.

Air weight running by air form an integral part of the weight system. It’s the process of acceptance, packaging, attestation and payload by air after due process of compliance with transnational statutory conditions.

There are two major running companies in Nigeria moment in the business of aeronautics running which includes both passenger and weight handling videlicet Nigeria Aviation Handling CoPlc.( NAHCO) and Skypower Handling CoLtd.( SAHCOL). piecemeal from the two handling companies involved in the weight processing, there are relatively a number of government agencies who have colorful statutory part to play before a piece of weight is eventually accepted for payload. Some Airline carryout their own weight handing among them is Arik air. Arik Airline are also involved in weight running services.

Air weight flows feel to be characterized by constraints in Nigeria which depicts a symptom of poor collaboration of weight for effective distribution and force chain that isn’t bring-effective. Effective distribution requires safe and timely means of transporting technical weight with high value to volume/ weight rate. These constraints according to Afolabi( 2005a) revealed that the storages and installations in Nigeria airfields weren’t acceptable enough to handle the volume of air weight for effective inflow. The author further linked tough clearing procedure as a constraint to the air weight assiduity in Nigeria. also, Afolabi( 2005b) stressed the issue of protection and security of air weight, indecorous protestation and attestation of goods in terms of types and volumes as constraints to state weight inflow in Nigeria. These thus results in an field handling weight type whose origin or final destination isn’t close to the field at the expenditure of other airfields with relative closeness. This serves as productive set back to Nigeria in the sense that enterprises diligence that bear high – value presto moving accoutrements would not thrive while the air weight assiduity won’t grow to be suitable to contend in global force chain and distribution. This is because utmost of these loadings are important in product processes since they serve as raw accoutrements and/ or outfit needed for service delivery.

The current modalities for weight running in Nigeria aeronautics assiduity fall suddenly of transnational conventions and norms. Our Cargo Handling Protocol allows for seven days grace to clear loadings, after which they will be charged for demurrage. In the event that the goods aren’t cleared within 28 days, the entrustments threat being declared overtime weight by the Nigerian Customs Service. There have been several cases of complain of purloining, damaged or missing luggage of air passengers at the nation’s airfields. All of these problems are traceable to poor modalities for weight running in Nigeria aeronautics assiduity. thus, this study is aimed at critically assaying ways of perfecting weight running services at Nigeria airfields using Arik Airline as a case study

Statement of the Problem

The issue of purloining and missing luggage at the nation’s airfields has been on for decades. On a diurnal base, no smaller than 30 passengers complain of purloining, damaged or missing luggage. The crucial pitfalls of air weight running in Nigeria aeronautics assiduity are shy security at the weight outstation of the field, loss of profit generation by Nigeria Customs Service, traffic in the terminal and inadequate labor force in the storages of ground instructors.

Crowd and access control into the weight area, which is handled by security labor force attached to the Civil airfields Authority of Nigeria( FAAN), is a major challenge in air weight running in Nigeria. Safety, poor quality service and structure are linked as the challenges facing the operation of the NAHCO in airfields across the country

compass of the Study

This study is a critical analysis of ways of perfecting weight running in Arik Airline. The study would be limited to information attained from Arik Airline, Lagos.

detail History of Arik Airline

Arik Air is a Nigerian airline operating a domestic, indigenous and transnational flight network. It operates substantially from two capitals at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Arik Air’s head office is the Arik Air Aviation Center on the grounds of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.

On 3 April 2006, Arik Air took over the former Nigeria Airways installations in Lagos, some three times after its liquidation, and began reconstruction work. On 14 June 2006, Arik took delivery of 2 new Bombardier CRJ- 900 aircraft to fly domestic routes throughout Nigeria and, within the African mainland from Summer 2006, 2ex-United Airline Boeing 737 – 300s and 3 50 seat Bombardier CRJ- 200 aircraft.

The Nigerian government set a deadline of 30 April 2007 for all Airline operating in the country tore-capitalize or be predicated in an trouble to insure better services and safety. The airline satisfied the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority( NCAA)’s criteria in terms ofre-capitalization and wasre-registered for operation.

Subsidiary airline Arik Niger( IATA law Q9) commenced operations in April 2009, but was shut down in February 2010.

Arik Air transported its 5 millionth passenger on 6 August 2010 and it transported its 10 millionth passenger on 18 September 2012, both on breakouts between Johannesburg and Lagos.

On 20 September 2012, the airline cancelled all its domestic operations after aeronautics officers raided the airline’s office in Lagos, Nigeria. Breakouts proceeded on 23 September.

Arik Air had placed an order for five Boeing 777 300ER aircraft, which was cancelled in 2011. Rumors have spread that Arik Air converted an order for two Boeing 747- 8I aircraft back into an order for two 777- 300ERs in 2013, still, no similar cancellation has materialized, nor was the order of two 777- 300ER aircraft verified by Boeing. The order for 2 747- 8I aircraft still stands and is still listed by the Boeing company.
