DOCUMENTED USEFUL INFORMATION ON THE EFFECT OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY

CHAPITRE ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 The Study’s Background

Teenage pregnancy is described as a pregnancy happening in a girl aged 13 to 17 years (Drife, 2001).

A teen pregnancy occurs when an adolescent female (typically between the ages of 13 and 19) becomes pregnant. 2003 (Grobler).

This can happen to both married and single girls of this age. The majority of teenagers got pregnant despite not being prepared to be mothers. As a result, they run into a slew of issues and challenges along the way. This is seen in many communities, but especially in Nigeria’s northern region. More emphasis will be made on the Chikun Community, where a lack of parental care and the way parents marry off their girls at a young age have led to the community’s high rate of teenage pregnancies.

South Africa has a very high prevalence of adolescent pregnancy and motherhood globally. The mother’s average age is around 19 years. 2003 (Grobler). He discovered that the death and morbidity rates among these mothers’ kids are high, and the mothers are at a significant risk of complications such as hypertension and intrapartum difficulties.

Teenage pregnancy is widespread in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area. According to Ruth (2003), early sexual engagement causes health concerns in young women, including anemia, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and extended labor. The infant is more likely to have a low birth weight, which increases the chance of prenatal death. Wikipedia (Wikipedia, 2009).

Teen pregnancy puts youngsters at risk of unintended parenthood. Furthermore, women who have sex at a young age are more biologically vulnerable to a variety of sexually transmitted infections, including (HIV/AIDS), than adult women. (Myles, 1999).

Many young ladies in our culture have been driven hopeless as a result of adolescent pregnancy, owing to the attendant issues, particularly for little children.

1.2 Formulation of the Problem

Teenage pregnancy poses a health risk because most teenagers experience lengthy labor, Vesico Vaginal Firstula (VVF), and sometimes both the mother and the baby die during labor. Wikimedia Commons.

Teenage pregnancy has resulted in child maltreatment, the dumping of children in gutters, and, on numerous occasions, abortions. Wikimedia Commons.

1.3 The Study’s Objective

The residents of the study area are unaware of the consequences of adolescent pregnancy because there is no documented information on the subject in the area. As a result, this study will provide recorded important information on the impact of adolescent pregnancy.

1.4 Importance of the Research

1. By the end of the study, the residents of the study will be aware of the consequences of adolescent pregnancy and will stop pressing their young girls to marry young.

2. The study will provide useful information to both the state and local governments on how to manage or alleviate the difficulties caused by teen pregnancy.

3. The work will contribute to the body of knowledge on the subject for future students.

1.5 The Study’s Justification

Teenage pregnancy caused many youngsters to drop out of school, and in other cases, their genitals were permanently scarred, causing great hardship.

The project will raise awareness among the residents of the study area about the consequences of adolescent pregnancy and provide beneficial recommendations.

1.6 Purpose of the Research

The overarching goal of this study is to investigate the impact of teenage pregnancy on residents of Chikun Community in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area.

1.7 Objectives Specific

1. Determine the reasons of adolescent pregnancy in the study area.

2. To evaluate whether culture is a factor in teen pregnancy in the research area.

3. To identify persons in the study region who have VVF or other issues as a result of a teen pregnancy.

4. To count the number of people who died as a result of teenage pregnancy in the research region.

1.8 Research Inquiries

1. What are the factors that influence teen pregnancy in the Chikun Community?

2. What role does culture play in causing teenage pregnancy in the Chikun Community?

3. What role does teenage pregnancy have in the development of VVF in teenagers?

4. What is the relationship between teenage pregnancy and the premature death of many teenagers?

1.9 Scope of the Research

This study is limited to the Chikun Community in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area. The study also looked at the detrimental repercussions of adolescent pregnancy in the Chikun Community.
