Evaluation Of The Relationship Between E-banking And Cyber Crime

Chapter One

Preface

Background To The Study

There are many inventions that have changed the dynamics of banking as much as thee-banking revolution. Throughout the world, banks are reorganizing their business strategies to take advantage of new business openings offered bye-banking. Electronic banking is believed to have started in the early 1980s. It has since also been growing in an unknown dimension in line with the growth in ICT development. E-banking has enabled banks to overcome borders, borrow strategic outlook, and bring in new possibilities. According to Nitsure( 2003), information communication technology has reduced the cost of processing and easing the transmission of information leading to drastic changes in the banking business. It’s worth noting thate-banking has not been limited to advanced countries, but is set up indeed in countries with underdevelopede-banking systems, as a result of the numerous new business openings offered bye-banking. Although no sanctioned description ofe-banking has been established, it generally implies a service that allows guests to use some form of computer to pierce account-specific information and conceivably conduct deals from a remote position like home or plant.

also,e-banking has egregious advantages to the client in terms of convenience where guests conduct routine banking deals from the comfort and security of any position from which they wish to distribute. The arising conception ofe-banking has drawn the attention of the business fraternity as well as of scholars and experimenters to the goods of similar dynamics on the banking assiduity. For case, Liao and Wong( 2008) in their study of the determinants of client relations with Internet- enablede-banking set up that factors similar as perceived utility, ease of use, security, convenience, and responsiveness to service requests to be a strong measure of the variation in client relations. Grounded on this finding, they suggested that strict security control is critical toe-banking operations. similar arguments don’t only have directorial counteraccusations for enhancing Internet banking operations and developing feasible electronic banking services, but also form the base upon which this study is grounded. E-banking technology created a revolution by extending banking hours beyond office hours and beyond public boundaries( Balachandran & Balachandher, 2000).

In Nigeria, several studies one-banking have been done. Chiemeke, Evwiekpaefe, & Chete( 2006), for case, conducted a realistic study on relinquishment ofe-banking where major hindering factors to Internet banking relinquishment similar as instability and shy functional installations, including telecommunications installations and electricity force, were linked. Crime and corruption represent a major concern for business directors not only in Nigeria but also in other corridor of Africa( Olasanmi, 2006). In Nigeria, for case, the most serious impediments to profitable conditioning and business are crime and corruption which pars 75 and 71 independently. Theft and fraud are the alternate most popular crimes after burglary. By description, cyber crime may be appertained to as any form of misconduct in cyber space. It’s simply defined as the felonious use of the Internet. Cyber crime is believed to have started in the 1960’s in the form of hacking. This was followed by sequestration violations, telephone tapping, trespassing and distribution of illegal accoutrements in the 1970s.

The 1980s witnessed the preface of contagions. The fast pace of development of ICT from the 1990s till moment has added to the list of felonious exploits in cyber space. moment, the Internet is used for spying and as a medium to commit terrorism and international crimes. Withe-banking gaining ground in Nigeria and other corridor ofsub-Saharan Africa, guests and online buyers are facing great threat of intentionally passing on their information to fraudsters.” Hackers ” get information of those who have made purchases through websites and also make fake cards, which they use with lower discovery. Absence of a law specifically dealing with card- related crimes in Nigeria may be giving stealers a loophole to operate freely( Olasanmi, 2006). Police treat card- related crimes like any other case of fraud.

Statement Of The Problem

This study is examining the types of cybercrimes that have profitable impact either directly or laterally on the fiscal system of a nation or having cross border ripple goods with focus one-banking. Longe & Chiemeke( 2008) simplified the list of unintended consequences of ICT to include acts similar as Phishing, cyber terrorism, electronic spam matters,cyber-stalking, and fake dupe- cat websites. While some types of cyber crimes are specific to Nigeria, other types, similar as identity theft and false statements, cut across all countries.

Objects Of The Study

The following are the objects of this study

1. To estimate the relationship betweene-banking and cyber crime.

2. To identify factors militating against effectivee-banking services.

3. To determine the result to the issues of cybercrimes that are related toe-banking.

Exploration Questions

1. What’s the relationship betweene-banking and cyber crime?

2. What are factors militating against effectivee-banking services?

3. What’s the result to the issues of cybercrimes that are related toe-banking?

thesis

HO There’s no significant relationship betweene-banking and cybercrime.

HA There’s significant relationship betweene-banking and cybercrime.

Significance Of The Study

The following are the significance of this study

1. The outgrowth of this study will educate the general public especially the druggies ofe-banking services on the relationship betweene-banking and cybercrime.

2. This exploration will be a donation to the body of literature in the area of the effect of personality particularity on pupil’s academic performance, thereby constituting the empirical literature for unborn exploration in the subject area.

Compass/ Limitations Of The Study

This study will cover the relationship betweene-banking services and cybercrime in Nigeria using Fidelity Bank Plc as the case.

Limitation Of Study

Financial constraint-inadequate fund tends to stymie the effectiveness of the experimenter in sourcing for the applicable accoutrements , literature or information and in the process of data collection( internet, questionnaire and interview).

Time constraint- The experimenter will contemporaneously engage in this study with other academic work. This accordingly will cut down on the time devoted for the exploration work.
