ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine innovative technologies as a correlation of library service delivery in the Bells University, Ota, Ogun State. Specifically, the study examined the factors mollifying against the operation of invention technologies in the deliveries of information services. The study also estimate the benefit of innovative technology in the deliveries of information services. Incipiently, the study find out the invention technologies applicable in the delivery of information dispersion. The study employed the check descriptive exploration design. A aggregate of 30 responses were validated from the check. From the responses attained and anatomized, the findings revealed that the factors mollifying against the operation of invention technologies in the deliveries of information services are Labour request, profitable conditions, Lack of leadership, and Short term thinking. Also, the benefit of innovative technology in the deliveries of information services is that it’s easier, briskly and more effective communication, more effective stock operation and ordering systems, new deals avenues and the capability to develop new, innovative approaches. Incipiently, some of the invention technologies applicable in the delivery of information dispersion are Websites, Emails, Social media handle and Mobile technology. The study thereby recommend that there’s need for acceptable capacity structure for professionals to meet with the realities of ultramodern times. Also, interpreters bear applicable training to acquire chops, stations and values that will support them in the task ahead. More so, For a meaningful metamorphosis process, all stakeholders should be adequately taken through the colorful areas of information operation for a detailed understanding. likewise, the government should make acceptable fiscal support to installations the provision of applicable and over to date information technologies structure to meet stylish global practices.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Libraries are substantially entrusted with a host of destined tasks like acquiring, organizing, conserving, reacquiring and propagating information to the stoner. From ancient times to the present Internet age, the primary ideal of library has always been this( Gopinath, etal.2001). still, towards the morning of the 21st century world over, there has been a phenomenal paradigm shift in the picture of library and information services. The recrimination of the influence of Information and Communication Technology( ICT) in every sphere of mortal development is visible and its impact on library and information services can not be overemphasized. Available literature( Sridhar, 1999; Igun, 2006) as well as compliances across the world attests to this assertion. In moment’s world, library and information services delivery are being converted from their homemade operations to new ways with the use of technology. The new technology and communication tools are employed in rendering services to the patrons through applicable channels for access to information with cluster of technologies appertained to as the internet. The technology called the internet has the capability to congratulate, support, and enhance educational accomplishments for the benefits of all.( Esew and Ikyembe 2013).

The attendant effect of this development has been the emergence of electronic services in libraries which has come the base for digital libraries( Youngok, 2006). Library services are assuming a different dimension in gospel, model and information delivery. The trend worldwide has proved that information provision and delivery had shifted from the traditional models to electronic and web- grounded formats. Traditional collections are giving way to if not total but at least cold-blooded collections. This change in structure isn’t without its attendant challenges as electronic and digital libraries come on with their peculiar characteristics despite participating the same purpose of conserving, organizing and distributing information coffers as in the case of traditional libraries( youngok, 2006). In a analogous tone, Mwamba( 2002), noted that in the case of Nigeria, there’s a shift in focus of operation from library- centred to information- centred; from the library as an institution to the library as an information provider, and to the librarian as a professed information specialist performing in all-affiliated information terrain, which bear the use of new system known as robotization of library functions for the improvement of information access and delivery not physically contained within the four walls of the library but from library networking for information provision to area networking for all types of information coffers handed. It’s a known fact that the internal, social and profitable development of the individual depends on the existent’s access to information through reading which enhances productive approach to perfecting one’s knowledge and understanding.

The 21st century isn’t without changes that are meant to put libraries and its immolations on a new pedestal. In his opinion, Hayes( 1998) noted that libraries must ‘’ move from resource centred, institutionalized and physically bound to network grounded ’’. getting a network grounded library still, has a lot of technological counteraccusations ; the single prominent factor being information technology( Sridar 1989,1995.1997, and 1999). likewise, literature affirmed that the change in the nature and places of libraries vis- à- vis the digital terrain has inversely brought about the need for development and accession of new chops and capabilities( Yongok 2006).

It’s good of citation that library and information services are crucial actors in furnishing unchecked access to essential coffers for profitable and artistic advancement. In doing so, they contribute effectively to the development and conservation of intellectual freedom, securing popular values and universal civil rights. They encourage social addition, by seeking to serve all those in their stoner communities anyhow of age, gender, profitable or employment status, knowledge or specialized chops, artistic or ethnical origin, religious or political beliefs, sexual exposure or physical and internal capability. The communities they serve may be geographically grounded or, decreasingly, linked only by technology and participated internet( IFLA 2003). The import of this new station of information creation, access, reclamation, storehouse and vacuity for use in a major metamorphosis towards creating information and knowledge grounded society for the good of all.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Libraries for numerous generations have taken numerous physical forms, rendering from large purposebuilt structures, to apartments in parent institutions and small temporary structures. The libraries also went further to access those places that couldn’t be penetrated through road, rail, water and the beast of burden as a means of transportation. In moment’s division, numerous libraries are now ‘’ mongrel ’’ combining both physical space and collection with a virtual library of electronic accoutrements and services. These development is a signal that there’s paradigm shift from old functional system to one supported by technology of different form. One of the prospects of a library stoner is to be suitable to pierce accurate, current and applicable information. This was still a delicate task to negotiate but with the technological inventions it’s possible to give enhanced information service from a single collection and hence new resource sharing programmes were introduced to meet stoner’s requirements. In the history, the incapability of a library to meet all need of a stoner at a point in time can now be overcome a s a result of internet and its associated technologies and using the global information all the need are met snappily and efficiently.

LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study was constrained by a number of factors which are as follows
