The Design And Fabrication Of A Pilot Production Plant For Paints (Emulsion And Texcoat)

ABSTRACT

The goal of this project is to realize an efficient method of producing paint utilizing a locally made mixing device that will produce high-quality, reasonably priced paint.

The project involved all areas of engineering, including mechanical machine design for a straightforward industrial mixer that is powered by a 3 HP electric motor and chemically reacting reagents like water and calcium carbonate to produce the desired coating for mechanical agricultural and civil structures.

The project research exposes students and business owners to all knowledge required for producing emulsion and texcoat using a single mixer, regardless of production capacity. The only long-term answer to the issue of unemployment is a self-help project. Many teenagers who are unemployed can lay their hiring. The project research is a simple presentation of condensed information on the factors that contribute to entrepreneur success.

Introduction

A paint pilot production facility is an entire pant production chain, from machine design to chemical mixing to packing. The creation of texcoat and emulsion (water-based paints), which are essentially categorized as one of the two types of paint, is the ultimate goal.

Colors Can Be Classified As

– Gloss Paints (Paints Based In Oil)

These paints can be categorized based on whether the main drying mechanisms are solvent evaporation, oxidation, or some sort of chemical reaction. Gloss paints use a fairly hard resin as the carrier because they effectively dry by solvent evaporation. Paints that oxidize are typically applied to an oil-based surface, and these typically contain driers to hasten the drying of the oil. Traditional exterior house paints are mostly made of oil and contain suitable pigments like titanium dioxide, extenders, and typically white lead and zinc oxide since these components combine to provide the qualities needed to meet this criterion.

– Emulsion/texcoat Paints (Paints With A Water Base)

These paints have a water-soluble binder, such as glue or casein or soybean protein, and they contain calcimines, which use glue as their binder.

The Research’s Objectives

The goals of the research project are to investigate the formulation, manufacture of a simple, low-cost mixing machine, and manufacture of paints, both glass and emulsion, using local extenders and pigment as raw ingredients. This is very advantageous for small-scale producers since it lowers manufacturing costs significantly compared to paint made by businesses using imported machinery and supplies.

Economics And Uses

Architectural structures are protected by paint against weather damage. Uncoated metal and wood degrade, especially when soot and sulphur dioxide are present. In the atmosphere, S02 combines with water vapour to create aqueous S02, which then reacts with water to create sulphuric acid, H2 S04, from which S032 reacts with metals, such as copper CU2+, as shown below.

The Value Of Study

Paints improve the aesthetic appeal of homes as well as the attractiveness of produced goods. Paints thus serve practical and artistic purposes. In the United States of America, annual paint sales were N4 billion (100 billion) in 1971; for the first time, industrial paints outsold architectural paints, suggesting a trend change. This demonstrates the significance of paint businesses in an emerging economy like Nigeria’s.

Effectiveness Of The Project

In underdeveloped nations, both industrialists and students lack access to simple and straightforward procedures for manufacturing pants, despite the fact that paints constitute a class of goods with significant aesthetic, protective, and utilitarian benefits. The few paint manufacturers that are currently available are so specialized or well-presented that they intimidate potential students and business owners. The project’s goal was to create a pant production factory that streamlined the painting process and inspired prospective entrepreneurs by providing them with a market that was both adequate and profitable due to the project’s low production costs.
