CHAPITER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 THE STUDY’S BACKGROUND

Students have a variety of personal beliefs, various learning styles, distinct personality traits, and hence have variable levels of comprehension. It’s sometimes thought that a person needs a combination of personality traits in order to succeed in their work. On this, educators, researchers, and psychologists have long worked (Isner, 2001). Searching for a select few traits that can forecast student behavior tendencies and their relationship to academic success (John, 2000). The precise meaning of the term “business” is “to be active.” However, the term “business” refers to any human endeavors that are motivated by a desire to make money. In other words, a business is an activity where a group of individuals regularly create or exchange goods and services for profit or mutual gain. The term “business” excludes goods and services created or obtained for personal use. Teaching students the fundamental principles and methods of the business world is part of business education. There are numerous instances of this. About 38% of high school students sign up for one or more business courses, which can be taken anywhere from a community college to a university. The character Hubert appears in the 2002 movie Hubert. Herricks (2000) defined business education as any type of instruction that both directly and indirectly prepares a businessman for his line of work. According to Harms and Stehr (2001), business education is the entire program that is conceived, planned, and organized to help youngsters. for the nation’s responsible involvement in the economy. Since it equips learners with a thorough understanding of business, business education is a crucial component of comprehensive education. The teacher can better prepare for business classes thanks to it. Business education is essential for a nation’s economic, social, and industrial development, claims Uwukhor (2005). to make it possible for someone to find fulfilling employment or to use their degree to create jobs for both themselves and others. Since the beginning of time, business education has existed as a vocational education choice. It helps people develop skills that are acceptable or marketable in a certain industry. refused to open up work opportunities (Ogunsola, 2014). A person’s conduct, attitudes, beliefs, and values all make up their personality. Our personality features influence how we interact with others and behave in specific circumstances. Nobody’s personality traits are the same as another person’s. Physical and mental characteristics that represent how someone appears, thinks, behaves, and feels together make up their personality (Medvedev, 2003). ‘Personality traits’ are enduring characteristics that manifest as a certain pattern of conduct in a variety of situations. It must address the distinctive variations in behavior, cognition, and emotion among individuals (Goldberg 2001). Conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism, and openness to new experiences are all examples of personality traits. Openness to new experiences is a measure of one’s intellectual curiosity, inventiveness, and preference for novel encounters. An individual needs variety and novelty. It might also have to do with a person’s level of freedom or inventiveness, as well as a preference for a particular line of employment. Various duties are completed over a demanding schedule. Conscientiousness is the propensity to follow rules and be reliable, to exercise self-control, to work hard toward an objective, and to prefer planned behavior over unplanned activity. Extraverted people are more prone to seek stimulation in social situations. Ewen(2010). While agreeableness is the tendency to be empathic and helpful toward people rather than distrustful and confrontational, neuroticism is the propensity to experience negative emotions like anger, anxiety, melancholy, and vulnerability quickly (Popsil, 2008). Neuroticism is a term used to describe how emotionally stable a person is (Vasek, 2010). The degree to which a student, teacher, or institution has achieved their educational goals may be referred to as academic accomplishment (Sinner, 2006). It can also be used to describe extracurricular activities and classroom rules. It includes, among other things, excellence in behavior, self-assurance, communication, skills, promptness, assertiveness, and art culture. The wealth and standard of living of parents, the location of the school, and the diversity of the student body can all have an impact on a student’s academic success. both in the same class and the kid’s character.

Statement of the problem: 1.2

According to research (Hubert, 2002), business education students are no longer as successful academically. This could be as a result of children not receiving enough support in dealing with their personality traits. It is disappointing to realize that personality traits account for the majority of student academic success and that the rate at which students fail the majority of business school courses is worrying (Almatier, 2001). The achievement of students in the business education department is influenced by social, familial, religious, and cultural factors as well as neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness, openness to experience, and conscientiousness.

Students would benefit from being able to identify the many causes of personality disorders and assess personality traits in them. The government would also gain from it because it would enable the ministry of education, curriculum developers, and the general public to comprehend the aspects of student personality traits, their implications, and their effects on academic achievement.
