The Non-compliance To Tuberculosis Treatment Among Patients Suffering Tuberculosis

Abstract

Tuberculosis is a problem of global significance among transmissible conditions. It’s alternate leading complaint causing death worldwide killing nearly 2 million people each time in Nigeria. Non-compliance of cases on tuberculosis treatment in an irregular and unreliable way has greatly caused threat of treatment failure, relapse and the development of medicine- resistance tuberculosis strains. There are kinds of reasons why cases fail to take their specifics. The center for complaint control( 2008) states the following

· The cases biddable are that drugs must be taken with empty stomach to grease immersion. This can be delicate for cases to follow especially waking up an hour before than usual everyday just to take drug on empty stomach.

· Another complains is the size of tablet

· Side- effect of the medicines can lead to cases not complying to their treatment.

· Issues on denial, stigmatization, emotional torture, artistic and life- style factors make cases not to take their treatment.

· Poverty, transportation, religion and station of health workers contribute tonon-compliance of cases on tuberculosis treatment.

Non-compliance of case on tuberculosis treatment is a serious problem for public tuberculosis control programs( 2007) states that this case tends to have advanced morbidity and mortality rate when compared to those who aren’t cured. They remain contagious for prolonged period of time; hence affected case continues to transmit the complaint in the community. World Health Organization( 2009) has estimated that 2 billion people have idle tuberculosis complaint which has killed1.7 million people in Nigeria. In Nigeria, 81 cases arenon-compliant to treatment for further than one month before presenting at casket conventions. The cases visit traditional healers and have low position of knowledge about the complaint or due to high cost of treatment, transportation and poverty. World health association( 2013) reported worldwide that some countries like South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Malaysia, Ghana, China, United States of America and Canada were enforcing the directly- observed treatment short- course strategy by the end of 2013. World health association 2015) presently recommends a case discovery rate of 70 and a treatment success rate of 85 for all tuberculosis cases.

Background Of Study

Tuberculosis is a problem of global significance among transmissible conditions. It’s alternate leading complaint causing death worldwide killing nearly 2 million people each time in Nigeria. Non-compliance of cases on tuberculosis treatment in an irregular and unreliable way has greatly caused threat of treatment failure, relapse and the development of medicine- resistance tuberculosis strains. Non-compliance of case on tuberculosis treatment is a serious problem for public tuberculosis control programs( 2007) states that this case tends to have advanced morbidity and mortality rate when compared to those who aren’t cured. They remain contagious for prolonged period of time, hence affected case continues to transmit the complaint in the community.

It’s believed that achieving these targets will lead to a reduction in tuberculosis frequence, prevalence, transmission and medicine- resistance to tuberculosis treatment.

This study was conducted to determine thenon-compliance of tuberculosis in Imo State University Teaching Hospital, OrluL.G.A.

Statement Of Problem

Despite the global trouble to reduce the prevalence of tuberculosis worldwide through mass media, there’s stillnon-compliance to treatment which may be due to the voluminousness of the medicines and taking the medicines on empty stomach. Noticing the prevalence of tuberculosis on orthodox and other conventions motivates the experimenter to carry out a exploration to determine the reasons fornon-compliance of cases to tuberculosis treatment.
