Abstract

This exploration is an attempt to reconstruct the History of Indigenous diligence under Colonial Rule in Daura District 1903- 1960. To ascertain the effect of social rule on indigenous diligence. still, previous to social administration the indigenous technological advancement especially blacksmiths, leather workshop, crockery, cloth assiduity, wood figure among others were flourishing professions among the occupants of Daura. nonetheless, during social administration the establishment of social programs similar as taxation, mandatory cash crop product, conscription of bodied suitable men to forced labour in mining among others affected these diligence similar that these indigenous diligence have faced retarded growth till date not only in Daura but in Nigeria as a whole.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This exploration attempt to examine A History Indigenous diligence under social rule in Daura District, 1903 – 1960. Daura is blessed with coffers like rich land, swash and other natural coffers which give openings for mortal habitation. maturity of the people in the area were growers and the chief crops grown include millet, sludge, guinea sludge, rice, sapetc.They rehearsed subsistence husbandry using original inputs. Other economics conditioning rehearsed in the area included domestication of beast, fishing, indigenous diligencei.e crockery, craft, cloth weaving, cloth dyeing and beating and engagement in small scale enterprise.1

Long before the arrival of social administration, indigenous technology especially blacksmith, cloth weaving, crockery, hand craft, gasket timber, butchering, thread timber( Kadi) and cloth diligence were flourishing profession among the people of Daura. It was apparent that essence work had advanced before the arrival of social rule that revolutionalised trade and import of the frugality of Daura particularly in the alternate half of the 19th century.

still, these indigenous diligence began to decline during the social period because of the programs of the social government in Daura District toward indigenous technology which was also applicable to the whole country. also, Nigeria and Africa as a total had suffered a ruinous profitable, political and social decline with the arrival of colonialism.2

The exploration thus examine the effect of social programs on the profitable conditioning of Daura District similar as social husbandry, taxation policy, British social labour policy, artificer, commerce and other factors that led to the decline of indigenous diligence in Daura District in the sameperiod.Furthermore, issues similar as the process that led to the elaboration of Daura quarter as a agreement and changes witnessed during the period of colonialism are also examined.
