Abstract

This exploration work is an attempt at reconstructing the history of Gusau in the social period, 1903- 1960. Colonialism has been a major miracle in the History of numerous African societies. This is due to the impact that it made on the frugality and society of the colorful homes through the perpetration of its programs. still with the passage of time utmost of the earnings that were made especially in husbandry, effective taxation, trade, and labour sectors have declined vastly. Despite numerouspost-colonial programs initiated by colorful administration in the country. It’s in the shot to find results to the below issues of development in Gusau that we’ve decided to embark on a literal study of Gusau quarter during the social period. We argued that indeed though some of the social programs distorted the socio- profitable and political life of the people of Gusau, still colonialism brought development to Gusau in the socio- profitable and political spheres.

Background To The Study

This exploration is an attempt to study the History of Gusau quarter in the social period, 1903- 1960. Gusau quarter is one of the sections that surfaced following the jihad movement of the nineteenth century in Hausa land, led by the fabulous Sheikh Usmanu Danfodiyo. It was innovated around 1799 by Mallam Muhammadu Sambo,( Dan Ashafa) a convert of the sheikh. Gusau quarter only came prominent after the fall of ‘ Yandoto in1806.1

Since its emergence as an important agreement in the Sokoto Caliphate, Gusau city attracted attention as an important agrarian and marketable center. At any rate, the city and its girding areas had attracted large presence of agronomists; growers and beast reverse, especially cattle retaining Fulani.2

In Gusau after the connection of Mallam Sambo with their Headquarters at Gusau had under the homes of Wonaka, Mada, Yandoto, Samri, Magami, Marabu, Mareri, Mutumji, Kwaren Ganuwa, Wanke and a group of townlets around Gusau, like other corridor of the caliphate.4

In territorial administration besides the arena holders in the devious home, the city was broken into five wards videlicet, Shiyar Magaji, Uban Dawaki, Galadima, Mayana and Sarkin Fada.
