A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS ON THE EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIAL TRAINING (I.T)
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of Industrial Training on HND I students at Federal Polytechnic Nekede in Owerri.
The study relied on primary data collected via a 15-question mail questionnaire.
For this study, a sample size of 206 students was chosen from a population of 425 students using Yamani’s approach and stratified random sampling.
The data analysis revealed that students strongly support Industrial Training and that the performance of HND I students is dependent on it, indicating that the positive effects of the one-year Industrial Training on HND I students outweigh the negative effects.
Finally, the study recommended some critical issues that must be addressed.
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 OVERVIEW OF THE STUDY.
It is an undeniable fact that education is critical to the economic development of a country. However, a perfect and complete education is obtained by training one’s head, heart, and hands. Meanwhile, among all of these, the most important is hand training because one cannot display without the training of the head and heart. Second, it is what the nation requires to develop its economy to the point of self-reliance, independence from foreign expertise, and industrialization, which is every nation’s heart cry.
However, what happens in tertiary institutions is the training of both the head and the heart. Thus, the introduction of industrial training (I.T) will aid in the actualization of the training.

1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS
A problem is not said to be recognized until there is dissatisfaction and doubt, and a solution is required.
There has been a recognition of wrong motives and a lack of interest among students who are due for one-year industrial training, based on their likes and dislikes for it. This is because of the positive and negative effects they have discovered that I.T has on them.
As a result, this study-the effects of Industrial Training (I.T) on HND I students-was born (a finding on whether the positive effects are greater than the negative effects or otherwise)
1.3 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
During the course of this research, I hope to accomplish the following:
1. Determine how students feel about the one-year industrial training program (I.T).
2. Determine whether the positive effects of one year of industrial training outweigh the negative effects.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY.
This research will benefit students, industries, institutions, governments, and society.
If the study shows that the positive effects outweigh the negative effects, then students will pursue I.T with the right motivations, thereby being useful to industries, representing the institution well (even in the future), fulfilling the government’s desire, and meeting the needs of the poor masses (society).
If not, it should be investigated whether it should be scrapped and replaced with another measure.
1.5 SCOPE OF THE STUDY.
For the sake of efficiency, I would like to conduct this research in one department in each of the institution’s schools – Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri.
That is, the population is made up of:
The School of Industrial and Applied Sciences has one department.
The School of Engineering Technology is one of the departments.
School of Environmental Technology has one department.
One division within the School of Business.
The study takes place during the 2007/2008 academic year.
1.6 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
Some flaws attempted to prevent me from carrying out this research. But with more effort, I was able to give it my all.
Financial constraints, material limitations (i.e., unavailability of materials), and a lack of time due to the shortness of the semester and other work on the table all contributed to the difficulties.
