A STUDY OF THE ACTIVITIES OF NATIONAL PROGRAMME ON IMMUNIZATION AND CHILD MORTALITY

  Abstract

The Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) Control Chart was widely used in the manufacturing industry to monitor process performance, set operational parameters standards, maintain standards, and monitor for improvement. CUSUM Scheme is designed and implemented in this study to evaluate the performance of immunization programs by taking into account vaccination activities and deaths recorded as a result of outbreaks of some selected diseases. In addition, retrospective analysis was used to determine the occurrence of local maxima or minimum values as observed on the CUSUM chart; regression analysis and analysis of covariance were used to determine the expected death rate as a result of the outbreak of some selected diseases; and analysis of covariance was used to determine the mean difference between the ratio of death to vaccination. and the rate of occurrence in three senatorial districts in Kogi state. The information used was obtained from the Kogi State Ministry of Health in Lokoja. In this study, it was discovered that the CUSUM Chart technique is more sensitive at detecting small changes in vaccination and death rates in Kogi State. According to the retrospective study, the immunization program has a positive impact in Kogi state because there has been quality improvement in vaccine administration in the state, which helps to reduce child mortality rate to the minimum level. Furthermore, the regression and analysis of covariance show that there was a mean difference in the ratios of death to vaccination in all of Kogi state’s senatorial districts.
