A Study Of The Influence Of Developmental Psychology On The Academic Performance Of Secondary School Students

 

Abstract

 

This exploration work was aimed at probing the influence of experimental psychology on the academic performance of secondary academy scholars. The focus of this design was on Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Data was collected by means of questionnaire which was administered to the two hundred( 200) sample repliers sleeted through arbitrary slice fashion. The data collected from the repliers were anatomized and interpreted through the use of simple probabilities. The findings revealed that problem of poor academic performance by the secondary academy scholars, has to do with the secondary academy pupil mind set, the kind of homes they come from, the kind of musketeers they associate with, the absence of a experimental cerebral centre in their seminaries, lack of trained staffs, absence of a guidance counsellor, among others, all these and further led to the final conclusion which the experimenter arrived at, that a experimental cerebral centre has a major influence on the academic performance of secondary seminaries, and later the experimenter made some recommendations.

This design is centered around the employment of experimental psychology in the secondary academy education, in Oredo original government area and the extent to which its impact has told the pupil of the seminaries in that original government area. One of the most burning issues in the minds of people in Nigeria in regard to education moment is the standard or quality being achieved from the system. Qualitative education should lead to empirical advancements through knowledge and chops. In ultramodern times of technological advancement each over the world, it’s possible to acquire knowledge in fields of mortal trials and good communication chops. The education sector is geared towards achieving the public pretensions of profitable and social development. One way of achieving this is through the education of the pupil in secondary seminaries. Nigeria is a developing country with different kinds of problems. Student’s performance in their academics is as a result of their internal development how they develop mentally determines their outgrowth physically. Their internal development can either have a negative or positive influence on their academic performance. Nigeria academy moment, particularly in secondary academy, pupil perform inadequately due to the terrain and their mindset.

 

The primary function of secondary academy is to prepare the pupil for the point, how to acclimatize the influence, the terrain in a positive way and also to prepare them for tertiary institution. The stages of development of mortal being after birth begins at immaturity from where a baby goes through the other stages of a toddler, early nonage, late nonage, nonage, early majority, middle age, and old age. At these different stages of development there’s a need to apply a specific methodology in other to achieve the stylish result in educating individualities grounded on the particular stage which they may fall in at a given time of their total development. This has led the government agencies and ministry responsible for education in Oredo Local Government, to demand results and reforms from both private and public secondary seminaries within the Original Government Area. There are more complains that colorful programs have been put forward, further backing has been called for, yet the decline of the quality of education in Oredo Local Government has steadily continued. Export argue that the areas of guidance and comforting, personality, social and emotional assessment of scholars have been gravely undervalued and neglected in lieu of further lectures and reading hours. It’s assumed that this has contributed the most to the lapse in pupil’s performance, by having overlooked their behavioural tendency and general psyche towards literacy.
