A Survey Of Open Larval Habitats Of Mosquitoes .

 

Larval check of open territories of mosquitoes was carried out in Awka, Isiagu, Nibo and Umuawulu communities in Awka South Original Government Area of Anambra State. The study was carried out from May- July 2011 during the wet season and December 2011- February 2012 in the dry season. The collection of naiads of mosquitoes was done using scoop and pipette. Nike Flyknit Air Max Heren Five larval territories of mosquitoes videlicet base pools, rainspouts gutter, used tyres, discarded domestic holders and tree holes splint axils were linked in the wet season while only ground pool along swash bank was linked in the dry season check. A aggregate of 343 naiads of mosquitoes belonging to three rubrics and five species were collected and linked. These were Aedes aegypti43.4(149/343), Culex quinquefasciatus25.4(87/343), Culex tigripes15.5(53/343), Anopheles gambiae12.5(43/343), and Anopheles funestus3.2(11/343). Culex quinquefasciatus had the loftiest distribution in ground pools(36.7) followed by Anopheles gambiae(33.7). In rainspouts gutters, Culex tigripes had the loftiest distribution of37.9 followed byA. aegypti and other species. In used tyres, only naiads ofA. aegypti andC. Only naiads of Anopheles gambiae and Culex quinquefasciatus were linked in the dry season check near swash bank in vegetable granges. Acceptable knowledge of larval territories of mosquitoes will help inform better environmental operation in the control of mosquito- borne conditions.
