Rice( Oriza Sativa) is an integral part of mortal being, it’s the world’s only crop that was planted by emperors and lords offered to the gods and eaten by both the flush and the poor. Rice is an periodic crop and the most important stable food crop in tropic countries; commercially it’s the most important cereal after wheat. It’s extensively consumed and there’s hardly any country in the world where it isn’t employed in one form or the other.

In Nigeria rice is one of the many food particulars whose consumption has no artistic, religious ethnical or geographical boundary. It’s available in five stars hospices in the big megacity and municipalities as well as the “ utmost original ” of the eating places in the outermost townlets throughout the country. It’s largely priced and extensively accepted for festivity. In some pastoral areas, it’s so adored that if is eaten only on Sundays and occasionally on request days.

But unfortunately, the civilization and product of this largely priced and veritably important food crop is abating accordingly, the price has gone beyond the reach of maturity of Nigerian’s. In order to stem the decline in the number of growers sharing in rice husbandry and at the same time increase the product of all staple food crops, the Federal Government introduced a number of agrarian development programmes design among want are Operation Feed the Nation( OPN), Green, Revolution National Accelerated Food Production Programmes( NAFPP), Directorate of Food, Roads and pastoral Architectures( DFRRT) and new Agricultural Development Programme( ADP), Swash in and Rural Development Authorities( RBRDA) and Nigeria Agricultural united and pastoral Development Bank to mention but a many. Irrespective of these programmes design and other schemes and enhancement in infrastructural installations, food crop( especially rice) products have persistently remained below request demand.

In the light of the below, conscious and effective sweats will be made to completely examine and study the product as well as the backing of this product processes of rice, the problems and the prospect of rice product in Nigeria a specified study of Owan East Local Government Area Gomezka( 2001).
