Design And Fabrication Of Mechancial Lawn Mower

Abstract

The specified institute’s mechanical engineering department has a number of non-operational machinery. As a result of maintenance efforts, the institute community as a whole has not developed or been maintained.

Due to this, the mechanical lawn mower project was built and planned to aid in the development and maintenance of the institution, community, and society at large in the areas of improving our food production, reducing the need for labor, and cutting grass in our environment.

In other words, during the planning and development of this project, many factors were taken into account, including the state of the environment, the machine’s effectiveness, maintenance, and repair. The cost of the necessary tools and the quality of the materials were also carefully considered.

Introduction

In the past, cutting grass by hand with a cutlass was used in places like schools, sports fields, hotels, public centers, and industries. This manual method of cutting takes a lot of time, requires human labor, and results in uneven cutting levels.

In addition to using these outdated cutting techniques, accidents can happen.

With the help of this project (the building of a mechanical lawn mower), which is used to cut grasses to an even height or level for quick cutting, the problems with the manual were intended to be resolved.

Due to the internal combustion engine doing the actual cutting while the operator exerts effort, this project lawn mower is also accident-free. It also reduced labor and the number of people needed in a particular operation. A large area of land can be easily cut with the lawn mower.

This initiative was started to aid in maintaining our environment’s cleanliness because most laborers find it difficult to use readily available tools for cutting gases, which is another way to promote beauty in our surroundings. Although mowers can be of the electric type as well, we decided to fabricate a mechanical type to overcome the problem of electricity and as a result this our lawn mower can be used everywhere even where there is no electricity. It is also used for cutting sports fields, such as football pitches, as well as crowns in hotels and business premises.

Assessment Of Need

Historically, the peasant farmer in West Africa as a whole has relied almost entirely on the hoe and cutlass for all aspects of farming. In the high forest zone of Nigeria, where tools vary in size and design depending on location, tiny farmers must slash through dense brush every three to four years. All of this work is done using a hoe or a cutlass to weed the farmland. The farmer must use all of his effort while using the tools at his disposal to run these farms. Due to the farmer’s inability, this project group has been looking for long-term solutions to the issue.

The cost of daily labor in farm operations has become extremely high for farmers to afford due to the nation’s intended development, but thanks to this project (a mechanical lawn mower), this issue of high local labor costs can be solved while still allowing for high profitability for farmers in Nigeria.

1.2 Review Of The Literature

1.3 Historical Background (Scope) Of The Project

Based on developing nations, farm operation technology has greatly increased. It is obvious that West Africa began to develop farm equipment even before 1960. Two tendencies are noticeable in this project’s relationship to the social and ecological conditions that are currently prevalent over this vast territory.

i. The use of tractors and other large agricultural gear has increased on farms with a significant population, notably in the savanna zone.

ii. The increased use of animal power and small machines on peasant farms in West Africa will lead to an increase in mechanization. This intermediate stage of mechanization, which occurs between the use of a hoe and a cutlass and a tractor combine harvester, is known as intermediate technology.

1.4 The Project’s Importance To Society

In general, the mechanical lawn mower project has a significant impact on the growth and upkeep of any community in the societies listed below.

1. Reducing the need for human labor by cutting the grass on secondary, primary, and tertiary fields.

2. A sizable area of farmland can be chopped or brushed using a lawnmower in a single day.

3. This project lowered the number of workers required in a certain farm activity.

4. To decrease the number of employees

5. To strengthen the nation’s economy

6. The availability of foreign currency in the nation

7. to lower importation costs for our nation, Nigeria

8. The fact that students and pupils are no longer allowed to trim the lawn with a cutlass encourages them to attend class regularly.

1.5 The Project’s Goals And Purpose

Nigerian market, from which this manufacturing is a development of already existing ones. In the past, various investigations were done in the lawn mower business in the USA, Germany, and other countries. It was focused locally to examine the state of our ecosystem. Below are some suggested goals and objectives for the project’s inquiry.

1.5.1 A Reduction In The Cost Of Labor

The amount of labor required to maintain the yard, brush the grass, and clear it away is significantly reduced when lawn mower machines are used in public spaces and on agricultural land, but the work may still be done quickly and efficiently with their help. IMT can get the yard well-cut and cleared with this project.

1.5.2 Enhanced Food Production

Using a lawnmower, a local farmer can start maintaining 100 hectares of farmland. With the help of this project, some sluggish farmers will start farming again, and many more individuals will get interested in agricultural engineering or courses that connect to farming.

1.5.3 Time Factor

The creation of this project (the lawn mower machine) results in a decrease in the number of man hours needed to trim the grass, which is improved by the use of the lawn mower machine, which used a few minutes of labor to complete the task.

1.5.4 An Improvement In The Economy.

It is required to grow and supply enough food to the market in order to enhance the country, ensure stability, and generate foreign exchange. This is only possible with the use of lawnmower machines; hand tools are not permitted. Increasing employment opportunities for the town’s youth.
