Statement of the problem

Abuse of numerous forms of medicines is veritably wide among teenagers and indeed grown-ups. Cigarettes, brewed alcohol, locally brewed alcohol, tramadol, rephnol, aspirin, and cannabis are among the most frequently misused anesthetics among undergraduates at a southern Nigerian institution( Essien, 2010). The impacts of medicine abuse are particularly concerning because the primary perpetrators and victims are the nation’s unborn leaders. The limited ways and fashions in which specifics are offered to the public in our requests and medical shops, which are contributory reasons to medicine abuse, were lowered upon by the society of croakers and druggists.

Despite enterprise by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control( NAFDAC/ NDLEA) and other associations, medicine operation is on the rise, with further than 40 of scholars taking colorful feathers of anesthetics( Ekpenyong, 2012). medicine abuse appears to be a deeply hardwired habit among tertiary scholars, who are hereafter’s leaders and need a decent education in the proper path. harmonious medicine abuse among this group of people can lead to psychosocial problems in society, as well affect academic performance and internal health, beget physiological and psychiatric disturbances, and have been linked as a major cause of poor academic achievement, physical health problems, poor finances, emotional problems, memory impairment, threat factor for utmost habitual conditions, and family relationship problems, among other effects. One can only hope that this obnoxious geste and its ramifications don’t affect in the begetting of a generation of perturbed youths. Because of the frequent and wide medicine heads at Nigeria’s advanced institutions, this supposition isn’t unjustified. therefore, against this background that this study seeks to examine medicine abuse and its effect on tertiary scholars learning capability and academic achievement in Rivers State university scholars.

3. To probe the effect of medicine abuse among undergraduate scholars of River State University.

It’ll also contribute to and serve as a significant source of academic and policy information on the issue of medicine dependence in Nigeria and enlighten policy makers on information to alleviate this anomie. The exploration will also contribute to the strengthening of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, which is elevated in the civil democracy of Nigeria’s constitution( 1999) as amended, and its recommendations, if duly enforced, will go a long way toward reducing the trouble of medicine abuse in our society. Empirically, findings from the study will add to the body of being literature and serve as a reference material to both pupil and scholars who wishes to conduct farther studies in affiliated field.

The study is still demarcated to River State University Student in Portharcourt.

Limitation of the study

Like in every mortal bid, the experimenters encountered slight constraints while carrying out the study. The significant constraint was the skimp literature on the subject owing to the nature of the converse therefore the experimenter incurred more fiscal charges and important time was needed in sourcing for the applicable accoutrements , literature, or information and in the process of data collection, which is why the experimenter resorted to a limited choice of sample size. also, the experimenter will contemporaneously engage in this study with other academic work. More so, the choice of the sample size was limited to tertiary institution as many replier were named to answer the exploration instrument hence can not be generalize to other position of education. still, despite the constraint encountered during the exploration, all factors were played down in other to give the stylish and make the exploration successful.
