Effect Of Rural-urban Migration On Agricultural Production

Abstract

This study examined the effect of pastoralcivic migration on agrarian product in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. The specific objects of the study were to establish the migrational trend in the study area. The study assessed pastoral growers and settlers responses to migrational trendsorder of settlersreasons for migration and goods of migration on agriculture Data were attained from 56non-migrants and 55 settlers that were intentional tried . 6 town lets in the study area comprised the population and also constitutes the arbitrary sample. The instrument used was a structured questionnaire and interview schedule. Data anatomized revealed that in terms of gender, manly resettle substantially and the current migrational pattern in the study area is pastoralcivic migration and pastoral pastoral migration. Result showed an below average response to youths as the order of people that migrates to civic areas while responses to children and aged people were below normal. The order of people that migrates largely impact the effectiveness of agrarian productivity( x2t = 18.14, xi2 = 7.815, df = 3, p = 0.05). There’s a significant relationship between socio profitable characteristics of emigrant and number of people that settlers out of the pastoral areas at( R2 = 0.74, F attained = 4.575, DW = 2.03, P = 0.00<0.005). The results showed that education(0.003) ranch size(0.17) ménage size(.000) are the major determinants of migration while connubial status(.334), income(.078) gender(.949) and age(.115) has inverse relationship with migration. The study encourages governmental and non-governmental agency to make the pastoral areas seductive in order to reduce the stemming out of suitable bodies people to civic in order to sustain food adequacy and security by governmental non-governmental agency. Loans should be handed and given to the targeted non-migrant as well as provision of subsidize and applicable technology, acceptable extension service and access to robotization to reduce donkey work in agrarian sectorsAgrarian planning in the State should be done from a good data base through good and acceptable agro-statistics gatheringrecycling and storehousereclamationperpetration and impact assessments.
