Background to the Study

 

Leadership is generally seen as an important variable affecting organizational performance. In associations of any size, it’s likely that organizational performance should be related to the aggregate goods of leaders at different hierarchical situations( Ibid). An understanding of the interplay between leadership, organizational culture and organizational performance is an important factor for developing effective associations. enterprises operate in a largely unpredictable and tense terrain where applicable leadership styles worth of leading the association and conforming with the changes made for the achievement of the organizational pretensions. Determining ways to optimize the performance of people and hence, the association has been and continues to be a major concern for organizational leaders. In ultramodern service- grounded, knowledge frugality, numerous companies are beginning to shift down from traditional models of operation developed for product- acquainted enterprises thereby requires a broader range of leadership chops and styles that are adaptive to diversity and to dramatic, frequently spastic changes in the work terrain. A visionary organizational leader influences the workers to contribute sweats towards the accomplishment of pretensions and objects of the association( Ibid).

 

Leadership is critical to the metamorphosis of a business association because it gives a positive direction to the use of mortal and capital coffers in achieving the objects of the establishment. A leader is a person who influences, directs, and motivates others to perform specific tasks and also inspire his inferiors for effective performance towards the accomplishment of the state commercial objects. Leadership is the manner and approach of furnishing direction, enforcing plans, and motivating people( 1). Leadership focuses on the development of followers and their requirements. directors exercising transformational leadership style concentrate on the development of value system of workers, their motivational position and moralities with the development of their chops( 2). The difficulty in studying generalities similar as leadership, organizational performance, and the interrelations between the two constructs, is that these terms are hard to define, describe, and to measure totally. The disagreement among proponents concerning the delineations of these variables has led to farther contestation about exploration design and instrumentation and to worsen this situation, there appears to be many earnings being made to ameliorate our understanding of these important generalities.

 

Leadership is the relationship that exists between an individual and a group which is erected around some common interests wherein the group behaves in a manner directed or determined by the leader. Leadership formulates the company’s business strategy and builds its coffers, including its people, finances and operations. An association can achieve a competitive advantage by creating a knowledgeable platform of business processes.( 3) stated that workers must imbibe the organizational culture so that the top operation should give a precise blue print and direction in motivating the workers in the right platform in order to achieve the organizational pretensions. A good quality demonstrated by leaders help to develop chops that embrace every aspect of culture in order to enhance the performance of the associations( 4). In addition, sees performance in the association as the capability to acquire and use its limited coffers in the performance of the organizational pretensions. The culture of an association has a great impact on the performance of the associations and added value to the workers of the association. The impulses for knowledge sharing and creating an atmosphere which is salutary for successful knowledge operation systems have designed the logical evaluation factors in the perpetration of knowledge operation systems. Grounded on this background, this study evaluates the relationship between leadership and organizational performance in Nigerian business associations.

 

Statement of Problem

 

Leadership is an essential asset of every association, as it points the direction of the association and show the way forward. Several associations have plodded with performance and meeting its obligation owing to poor or ineffective leadership. The attendant difficulty facing association in their pursuit of organizational pretensions gives birth to this exploration work so as to ground the gap between leaders in an association and their places in enhancing better organizational performance. The complex business terrain makes the client’s demands quality service picture, inflexibility, and speed are concerned, putting as a result the emphasis on perfecting client services. The decreasingly competitive business brings about invention enterprises and the exploitation of business openings in achieving a successful business thing in the immediate future.

previous studies had been conducted on the area of leadership style and organizational performance in Nigeria( ii). Several associations have plodded with performance and meeting its obligation owing to poor or ineffective leadership. The attendant difficulty facing association in their pursuit of organizational pretensions gives birth to this exploration work so as to ground the gap between leaders in an association and a good organizational culture in enhancing better organizational performance. A single exploration work won’t be enough to estimate leadership impact upon organizational performance.

 

Points And Objects Of The Study

The end of this study is to estimate the relationship between leadership and organizational performance in seven up bottling company in Nigeria. The specific objects are to

 

i) Examine the relationship between participative leadership and organizational performance.

 

ii) Examine the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational performance.

 

iii) Examine the relationship between transactional leadership and organizational performance.

 

iv) Examine the relationship between laissez- faire leadership and organizational performance.

 

Significance of the Study

 

The study will be of great significance to organizational leaders, captains of diligence and implicit leaders by equipping them with needful knowledge of leadership in enhancing the performance of the associations. Organizational success depends on the association’s capability to diagnose and understand situational factors in the terrain and borrow organizational processes and structure that will enhance its performance. It’ll also reflect on the relationship between individual leaders and their inferiors and how similar relationship has affected their job performances and the growth of the association. Business directors will gain knowledgeable sapience into leadership quality in order to have the capability to acclimate to situations and have tone- control of their leadership traits. It exposes them to some good executive chops especially in the area of staff weal and identifies the possible problems militating against the performance of these conditioning and proffer results that will annihilate these setbacks so that there will be growth and development of the association. This exploration work will also add to the body of knowledge available on the subject been examined and serve as a base for farther academic exploration and disquisition for stakeholder to calculate on

 

Compass of the Study

 

This study is to estimate leadership and organizational performance in Nigeria. The compass of the study cut across the total number of workers of Seven Up Bottling Company located in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State for the period of 2017. A intentional slice fashion will be used in testing the repliers for the given study

 

Methodology

 

The methodology espoused in the collection, analysis and interpretation of the data collected for the study is hereby outlined. It attempts to give a detailed analysis of the exploration design, population and slice fashion, operationalization and dimension of variables, sources of data collection and system of data analysis.
