EVALUTION OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IN THE EDUCATION OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES ( A CASE STUDY OF JAMAN NORTH DISTRICT OF GHANA)

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1  Background of the study

Human development takes place in a continuous or parallel fashion. The success of the previous level will determine the success of the next level. If the development process is hampered or disrupted, it will be difficult to achieve optimal development and growth. This implies that the concept of special needs children is more broad and important than the concepts of exceptional, disabled, or disadvantaged children. Children with diverse abilities include both children with long-term special needs due to specific disabilities and children with temporary diverse abilities. Children with temporary different abilities, such as those who have developmental issues that may be influenced by their future learning abilities, or those who have vulnerabilities, weaknesses, or high risk factors, are referred to as risk factors. risks of encountering obstacles or disorders in learning or subsequent development. Children with “special needs,” also known as “children with various abilities,” are children who have faced difficulties in their behavioral development. According to Handoyo, “behavior is all activities of an individual, small or large, that can be seen, heard, and sensed by the sense of taste in the skin, and (not in the heart) by others or selves” (2001). Behavior includes speech or voice, movements or actions in the form of irregular or irregular movements, planned or unintended, consciously or unconsciously, beneficial or useless. In some ways, the behavioral development of children with special needs will present challenges. Because social communication necessitates both behaviors. If these are true,

When children are not properly cared for and treated, their learning process suffers.

1.2 Research problem statement

The emergence of various diseases or developmental barriers in people with special needs is a phenomenon that must be addressed further in order for them to continue to live a decent life and maximize any skill they have, no matter how minor. Hadjiyiannakou, Ioannou, and Tzoigkouros propose several causes (2007). First, when parents have disabled children, their family’s identities are altered, and they live with a sense of insecurity. Second, because of the presence of the disabled child in their home, the parents have low energy and an unhappy attitude. Third, parents have no choice but to be insecure because of their life’s journey. is too difficult. Fourth, parents are associated with failure; they are humiliated and insecure, and at times they appear to be grieving. This is significant because, regardless of their limitations, every human being has the same right to grow, develop, accept, and play their role in society. The efforts to optimize the development of adolescents with special needs are limited to providing the necessary education and training in terms of daily living skills, academic materials, and work skills. However, a number of issues, such as a lack of conventional schools for children with disabilities, unqualified teachers, and a lack of instructional materials, all have an impact on the learning of children with disabilities. The level of parental involvement in the education of disabled children will be assessed.

This context was investigated.

1.3 The study’s objectives

The study’s primary goal is as follows:

1. To investigate the impact of parental involvement on the education of disabled children.

2. Determine the effect of parental involvement on the learning achievement of children with disabilities.

3. To learn how parents manage disabled children in order to help them achieve academic success.

1.4 Hypothesis of research

For this study, the following hypotheses have been developed:

H01: Parents’ involvement in their disabled children’s education has no effect on their ability to learn.

H02: Parents do not manage disabled children in order to help them achieve academic success.

1.5 Importance of the research

This study’s importance cannot be overstated.

as:

This study will look into the evaluation of parental involvement in the education of disabled children ( a case study of Jaman North District of Ghana)

l The research findings will undoubtedly provide much needed information to government organizations, radio stations, the broadcasting commission, and academia.

1.6 The Study’s Scope

This study will look into the evaluation of parental involvement in the education of disabled children ( a case study of jaman north district of ghana)

1.7 Research limitations

A number of factors hampered this study, which are as follows:

just like any other research, from a lack of needed accurate materials on the topic under study to an inability to obtain data

The researcher faced financial constraints in

obtaining relevant materials, as well as printing and collating questionnaires

Time constraint: Another constraint is time, which makes it difficult for the researcher to shuttle between writing the research and engaging in other academic work.

1.8 Term operational definition

A person’s father or mother is referred to as their parent.

Being involved with or participating in something is defined as involvement.

A physical or mental condition that restricts a person’s movements, senses, or activities is referred to as a disability.
