Background Of The Study

Personality traits are identifying rates or characteristics that are the personification of an existent’s. They’re your habitual patterns of geste , disposition and emotion. Chops, on the other hand, are the learned capacity to carry out specific tasks. Personality, in the other hand, is a set of individual differences that are affected by the development of an individual values, stations, particular recollections, social connections, habits, and chops( McAdams & Olson, 2010; Mischel & Smith, 2004).

 

Academic provocation is one of the effective factors on scholars ’ achievement. Learners need to be interested in literacy; else, all sweats of the educational system would fail. So, understanding and developing the knowledge about factors that affect academic provocation can help to ameliorate educational performance. Although capability and intelligence are considered as predictors of academic achievement, there’s substantiation that personality variables also play a part( O’connor & Paunonen, 2007). The literature also suggests that personality traits affect the academic provocation and performance(e.g., Costa & McCrae, 1992; Komarraju & Karau, 2005; Chamorro- Premuzic & Furnham, 2003, 2008). thus, the study tries to probe the impact of personality traits on interpersonal dependence of undergraduate in Imo State.

 

There’s substantiation that personality traits can prognosticate academic provocation and achievement( Costa & McCare, 1992). Grozier( 1997) mentions provocation as a core particularity in the Big Five factor model of personality knowing that conscientious individualities are organized, hardworking, tone- chastened, ambitious and persisting. In addition, provocation has an important influence on a learner’s literacy geste and achievement( Vallerand etal., 1992). O’Connor and Paunonen( 2007) consider three accounts for the evaluation of personality traits as predictors ofpost-secondary scholars ’ academic achievement. First, there are behavioral tendencies reflected in personality traits that can affect certain habits that impact academic achievement similar as perseverance, meticulousness, talkativeness. Second, whereas cognitive capability reflects what an existent can do, personality traits reflect what an existent will do. Third, personality as well as cognitive proficiency would prognosticate posterior performance more in aged scholars, especially provocation- related personality variables.

 

Statement Of The Problem

The problem of underachievement has assumed a worrisome dimension in the Nigerian educational system. hopeless to make it anyhow, scholars have cooked colorful illegal means to succeed in examinations, indeed when they aren’t academically competent. And unfortunately, the system has buckled under the pressure. Examination malpractice has risen steadily to come a putatively untamable monster. It’s decreasingly getting delicate to equate capability of people with supposed academic performance as represented in their instruments. numerous campaigners are unfit to defend the result they apparently acquired nobly. And of course this has constantly led to incapability to contend effectively in the job request which has come a serious issue. Several factors have been delved into in the history as to the cause of this social malaise, but there feel to be suggestions that some retired factors may be responsible that requirements unraveling. This desire to see this problem checked gave rise to this study and the experimenters ’ aim is to see if there’s a way in which the big five personality traits can help, especially from the perspective of the logical and scientific approach of dimension and evaluation.

 

Objects Of The Study

The ideal of the study is to find out the following

1. To examine the relationship between personality traits and interpersonal dependence among undergraduates in Imo State.

2. To find out whether there’s any significant relationship between meticulousness and scholars academic achievement.

3. To find out whether there’s any significant relationship between affability and scholars academic achievement in Imo State.

1. Is there any relationship between personality traits and interpersonal dependence among undergraduates in Imo State?

2. Is there any significant relationship between meticulousness and scholars academic achievement?

3. Is there any significant relationship between affability and scholars academic achievement in Imo State?
