Influence Of Gender And Locality On The Attitude Of Adolescents Towards Aids

Abstract

This study delved Influence of Gender and position on the station of Adolescent Towards ADIS. 100 were Adolescent aimlessly named from civic and pastoral area for the study. The age range was between 15- 19 times with a mean age of 17 times. station towards AIDS scale Comoluabi 1995 was used for data collection. 2 ´ 2 factorial design was used and a two way ANOVA was also espoused as a statistical test, findings showed no significant gender difference. manly and womanish share analogous station towards AIDS. There was a significant localfect. Those who live in the civic area were set up to have further posture station than those who live in pastoral area. There was significant commerce effect, findings were bandied in relation to literature review and recommendation were also made.

Background Of The Study

The despoilments of the AIDS epidemic have made this complaint the loftiest precedence of our health system. In the absence of a cure, or further effective forestallment or treatment, it was projected in 1993( Chesney, 1993) that the world could anticipate 30 to 40 million new cases by 2000( Mann, 1991). These protrusions are on tract or are proving to be undervalued particularly in developing nations.

In 2000, the total number of people living with HIV was estimated at34.3 million, in the hardest hit regions in Southern Africa, between 15 and 30 of the grown-ups population are believed to be HIV positive. likewise, the United Nations estimated that at least 2 of every 5 girls and boys, who are 15 times old moment, in the countries in Southern Africa, will die of AIDS( Schwartlanders, Garnelt, trampers, and Anderson, 2000).

AIDS/ HIV is a complaint which affects mortal vulnerable system. AIDS has come the world’s fourth leading cause of death and number one killer in Africa, where in 1998 it took1.83 million lives( balter, 1999). AIDS as it name tells us, is an vulnerable complaint an acquired vulnerable insufficiency pattern( AIDS) caused by the mortal Immunodeficiency Contagion( HIV), which is spread by exchange of fleshly fluids, primarily semen and blood. AIDS/ HIV kills sluggishly; it ironically can be murderous to further people. When the HIV infections becomes manifest as AIDS, some times after the original infection, the person has difficulty fighting off other conditions, similar as pneumolystis, pneumonia, cancer, madness, or a wasting pattern in which the body literally withers down. Also after several months to several times with no symptoms, cases may develop minor health problems similar as weight loss, fever, and night sweats, symptoms that make up the condition known as AIDS- Related- Complex( bow).

On June 5, 1981, the centers for complaint control reported the first case of acquired vulnerable insufficiency pattern( AIDS). In the decades that followed, AIDS grew from an unknown complaint into a ruinous worldwide epidemic for which no medical cure has been set up. According to the world health association( 2002), about 16,000 new infections do each day. Worldwide, 1 in every 100 grown-ups between the periods of 15 and 49 are infected with the AIDS contagion, and the complaint has so far claimed the falsehoods of nearly 20 million people of the 3 million people who failed from AIDS in 2001, 37 percent were woman and 20 percent were children. In some countries of Southern Africa, 25 to 40 percent of the population is infected, including a third of all pregnant women. Encyclopedically, only 5 to 10 percent of the cases now do in homosexual men( the population generally linked with the Affliction), and women now make up half of all HIV cases( United Nation, 2002). In the early 2000’s, the rate of infection began to rise again among homosexual men in North America, Europe and Australia due to increases in parlous sexual geste ( CDC, 2003). The AIDS epidemic threatens to overwhelm the words health care backing and delivery systems.

AIDS is caused by the mortal Immunodeficiency Contagion( HIV), which cripples the vulnerable system. The case also becomes vulnerable to overrunning contagions, bacteria, and excrescences, which are the factual killers. Because the AIDS contagion evolves fleetly, vaccines are at the present ineffective in precluding its spread. also, the incubation period between original infection and the appearance of the complaint may be as long as 10 times, meaning that an infected needles in intravenous medicine use; and exposure to infected blood through transfusion or in the womb.

In the absence of a vaccine or cure, the only being means of controlling the AIDS epidemic is by changing the high- threat behaviours that transmits the contagion. In this respect, AIDS is as important as cerebral problem as a medical bone . Prevention programs are generally designed to

Educate people concerning the pitfalls that attend certain behaviours, similar as vulnerable coitus

Motivate people to change their geste to people living with the contagion

give specific guidelines for changing the parlous behaviours and educate the chops demanded for changes and

Give support and stimulant or the desire changes( O’Leary 2001).

Indeed when commodity as critical as AIDS forestallment is involve the exploration has shown that the success of forestallment programs depends on the extent to which the individual social system supports the solicitations changes( Herd & Linden Baum, 1992).

On promising approach to station change which was inspired by Albert Banduras social cognitive proposition. It involves the use of modeling procedures to change station and geste . In some of the poorest and most hopeless corridor of the word( Bandura, 2000). The strategy is to produce largely engaging ‘ entertainment- education ” radio dramatizations to increase mindfulness andcounter-act false beliefs. In Tanzania, for illustration, numerous people enoneously believe that AIDS is transmitted by mosquitoes and that using a condom while having coitus could actually beget the complaint. Health psychologists who concentrate on AIDS frequently design programs to educate people about AIDS and to help help AIDS. stations are frequently unconnected to geste , that is, people know that consequences of high threat geste can be deadly, and they clearly have negative stations about acquiring AIDS, but their geste may still be parlous.

Purpose Of The Study

The points of this study are as follows

To determine whether gender will significantly impact station of adolescents towards AIDS.

To examine whether position will significantly determine station of adolescents towards AIDS.

Statement Of The Problems

Not opposing all the sweats by both government andnon-governmental association against AIDS, the problem of the epidemic is still at increase. As a psychologist, I came upset on what could by the reason; on to this, allowed that the major reason for the continued spread of the contagion perhaps attributed to the station of the public, especially adolescent towards this contagion. Adolescent were chosen as the target population because they aren’t only the leader of hereafter but thy engage more on lawless coitus than grown-up who are wedded. thus in looking at the problem of station towards AIDS, the experimenter decided to use gender and position as reference. thus following problems were addressed in this study.

Will gender significantly determine station of adolescents towards AIDS? Will position significantly determine station of adolescents towards AIDS?

Functional Description Of Tems

station – predilection of a geste

Adolescents- individualities between the periods of 12- 20 times

position – Being civic or pastoral area

Gender – being manly or womanish

AIDS – Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome

HIV – mortal Immunodeficiency Contagion.

PLWHA – people living with HIV/ AIDS.
