Impact Of Social Media In Local Government Administration In Nigeria

Abstract

This study used the local government of Osogbo in Nigeria as a case study to explore the effects of social media on local government management. The survey method was used for this study’s research; 150 questionnaires were distributed to respondents within the community and secretariat of the Osogbo local government, and 130 copies of the questionnaires were returned. Without a question, the advent of social media into Nigeria’s local government administration has revolutionized the practice and performance of public relations at all levels. Social media has been a part of our culture for about ten years, but it hasn’t yet been fully acknowledged and integrated as one of the main conduits for information inside local government. It is advised that having a properly staffed and resourced Information Department for the local government will help a great deal in integrating social media into local government operations.
