Background of the Study

New technologies have redounded in the new deployment of advanced and superior tools to enhance smart and quick delivery of workshop in the society. In considering this fact, Hilbert( 2007) describes these technologies inclusively as information and communication technologies( ICTs) as a revolution which has entered nearly all fields of mortal conditioning, therefore transubstantiating profitable, political and social life.

 

ICTs are crucially important for sustainable development. Two decades ago, utmost advanced countries have witnessed significant changes that can be traced to ICTs, hence in a simple term information and communication technologies( ICTs) can be defined as electronic machines that can store, organize, find information, do computations and control other machines, as much these have helped in so numerous associations to reduce the work cargo on staff and make their work performance more.

 

Work performance according to Oxford Advanced Dictionary( 2005) is the act of performing, carrying in to prosecution or action, so in this dimension, the influence of ICTs has been felt, because the quantum of work fulfilled by a computer system within a shorter time and using lower coffers are further than the task carried out by man in long duration of time.

 

ICTs have always been considered as a competitive advantage in the business terrain of effective performance. But the important thing is that the factual charges that could increase the implicit value of information would do if the association is suitable to use this important resource through the operation of new technology. ICT with features similar as storing, recycling, selling and transferring a large bulk of data can help operation to ameliorate the association performance. In addition, the significance of productivity and the necessity of its assessment have entered important attention given the adding situations of competitive technology complexity, diversity of tastes, lack of coffers, and rapid-fire exchange of information.

 

For a time, some suggestions are offered on how to manage coffers with an approach as association work performance. Infact, association work performance surfaced through wide use of crew Resource Management( CRM) aiming at transferring communication structure principle grounded on ICT dealing with issues related to guests and workers. Organization work performance is, in a general sense an effective medium plan and technology in the field of operation haggling with how companies are communicating with their new and old workers. Like other new directorial conception, association work performance is viewed as an effective medium that provides collective and participated values for employers and workers.

 

Statement of the Problem

Over the times, ICTs have played vital places in nearly all walks of life and the influence of ICTs has been felt in all areas including medical, marketing, agrarian sector, administration and indeed in communication. It’s also accepted by numerous, that ICTs have played enormous places substituting homemade force in different associations, hence, the notion “ imagine a world without ICTs. This study is thus needed following the supposition that work performance in numerous associations in this period is generally told by ICTs.

 

As such this study sought to find the influence of information and communication technologies( ICTs) on the work performance of staff of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Ekpene.
