Locality And Gender As Predictors Of Attribution Of Success

ABSTRACT

This study delved whether position and gender will significantly prognosticate criterion of success among adolescents. The actors were named from Community secondary academy Agbani and Federal Government College Enugu. The actors were aimlessly named making use of simple arbitrary slice fashion and were in elderly Secondary I and II of the seminaries. The actors were within the age range of 12- 17 times with a mean age of 15 times with a standard divagation of 5 times. The actors were administered a 19- item questionnaire designed to measure criterion of success in academics. Grounded on 2 x 2 factorial design, 2- way ANOVA F- test was applied to test the effect of the independent factors. The findings revealed that position as an independent factor was set up not to yield a significant outgrowth as predictor of criterion of success. F = ( df = 1, 124) = 0.41, p>.05. Gender also didn’t yield a significant outgrowth as predictor of criterion of success, f = ( df = 1, 140) = 1.44, p>.05. The findings were bandied in relation to literature reviewed and recommendations made.

Chapter One

Preface

Background of the study

We’ve spent a great deal assaying and agitating why people act the way they do, especially when commodity unanticipated happens. Is her warmth, an expression of romantic interest in me or is it how she relates to everyone? Is his absence, the result of shiftlessness or of an rough atmosphere? Heider,( 1958) proposed criterion proposition as the way to dissect how we answer similar questions. Herder concludes that people tends to attribute other’s geste either to their dispositions( internal causes, similar as their personality) or to their situation( external causes, similar as their terrain) therefore a schoolteacher may wonder whether a child’s hostile geste is an ineluctable reflection of his aggressive personality( a “ dispositional criterion ”). In making similar consequences, we constantly overrate the influence of people’s disposition and underrate the impact of their situations a miracle known as criterion error. In addition supposed youover-heard an familiarity of yours, agitating a poor grade he got in an examination. Suppose he claimed that he did n’t do well because of bad luck, a noisy room, ill health and poor reading room. Thirty seven counselor education graduates were asked to assign validity standing to seven possible explanations of what determine geste . The scholars assigned high validity conditions to an “ commerce ” explanation of geste . Further, they attributed the geste of others to internal causes( Donnan & Pipes, 1985). Also in a study to probe experimental trends in children’s attributions for success and failure in achievement and social situations. Specifically, further internal-stable causes were generated for social situations and for success issues, while further internal-unstable reasons were generated for achievement situations and for failure issues. No significant coitus differences were apparent for any variable( Rich and Hyatt, 1981). still, Rogers( 1991) explored the causes cited by British Primary academy scholars for case of relative success and failure in class work in free- response setting. The finding revealed that;

1) Overall, the children were most likely to explain success and failure in terms of performance capability,

Specific capability capability trouble and interest geste and speed.

2) No child explained success or failure in terms of change

3) As children get aged they were less likely to answer “ do n’t know any response “ or to attribute success and failure to performance capability;

4) Gender had no effect on criterion;

5) The response order “ trouble and interest ” was used more constantly to regard for performance variations in mathematics, while “ voluntary time spent ” was used to regard for variation in reading;

6) Reposes related to “ geste ” were more likely to explain failure than success. Grounded on the below compliances it becomes material to question whether age and gender as independent factors can serve as prognostications of criterion of success among Caritas University undergraduates.

Purpose of the study

This exploration was aimed at chancing out the following.

To determine whether position will significantly prognosticate criterion of success among undergraduates.

Also to determine whether gender will significantly prognosticate criterion of success among University undergraduates.

Statement of the problem.

Answers to the following problems are sought by the experimenter in this study.

Will position significantly prognosticate criterion of success?

Will gender significantly prognosticate criterion of?

Functional Description Of Terms

criterion The assignment of causes to geste or the

perception or conclusion of the geste of the causes

of geste , similar causes including particular

dispositional factors and external or situation factors.

position Whether you stay in the city or vill.

Gender it’s grammatical grouping of forestland into classes. tackle is

also groupings into mannish, womanlike and neuter.

prognosticate It’s way of saying or telling commodity in advance.

This also means to read the future.
