Abstract

This study was done to find out how well the junior secondary school pupils in the Enugu North Local Government area performed academically on the geography portion of the JSSCE in the years 2008 and 2009. A review of the literature was done based on the subject. Eight (8) secondary schools in Enugu North L.G.A. were chosen at random from the population of junior secondary schools in the study, which included junior secondary schools. The JSSCE results of the students from 2008 and 2009 are the instrument utilized for data collecting. Tables and percentages were used to assess and display the study. The study’s four stated research questions included things like what the pupils’ overall academic performances in the JSSCE in the Enugu North local government area were in the English language. What were the JSSCE geography students’ overall academic standings in the Local Government course that they were taking? Are the results of the Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination rising or falling in terms of the two studied subjects’ quality passes, ordinary passes, and failures? Their findings revealed that children are performing worse on the geography portion of the junior secondary school certificate test. The government and everyone involved should try every way to enhance the academic performance of the students in geography since they are our main source of hope, according to several conclusions and proposals that have been made.
