The Advent Of Modern Communication Gadgets: Implications For Nigerian Journalism

ABSTRACT

Implications for Nigerian journalism with the development of modern communication technology. The study’s subtitle painted a vivid picture of the advent of communication devices that were more potent than those used in the past and could handle adequate communication outreach to the entire planet.

It covers the development of communication among the earliest humans, the demand for and introduction of prehistoric communication devices, the gradual displacement of the former and the development of the latter, as well as the widespread use of these devices in what is now known as the global village of communication.

We used five chapters to come out on top in this area.

In the first chapter, the issue is introduced in terms of the study’s significance, background, goals, objectives, definitions of key terminology, and references.

The review of pertinent literature and comments are covered in Chapter 2.

In order to complete this assignment, we used an investigative research strategy and the historical methodology.

Analysis of the data gathered in chapter three is covered in chapter four.

Chapter five: Based on our research, we came to several conclusions and suggestions.

We think that this research adds new information or knowledge to the body of knowledge in this field of human endeavor.

INTRODUCTION

1.1 THE STUDY’S BACKGROUND

It would be foolish for any group or nation to put communication in the background in its economic, political, social, and other activities because communication is so essential to human existence and all human activities. In fact, we’re willing to say that communication is the most important factor in creating an organized, unstoppable, and progressive nation because without it, there would be no national entity and no practical way to address problems facing the country or advance the country. All of these statements may be said with confidence because it is evident that all human activities—whether they occur on an interpersonal, group, local, state, national, or international level—involve information flow and communication.

Man was designed to be sociable, and as a result of these traits, he has always had to rely on other people in what is known as human communication.

Message, idea, and attitude transmission as well as the creation of meanings between two or more individuals often occurs through the use of human voices, sensory organs, facial expressions, body language, and more recently, machine-assisted channels or technologies. It is impossible to overstate the value and significance of communication in our advanced and modern culture.

Mass communication was first used in the world as a result of awareness of these needs. It is a process by which a complex organization produces and transmits messages intended for a sizable, diverse, and dispersed audience with the help of one or more machines. The practice of communicating to a large audience through the use of mass media, including books, newspapers, magazines, movies, radio, television, and computers, to name a few, has also been employed by Nigerian journalists as a means of disseminating information. Although communication had always existed, it had never been on a large scale since there were no modern devices or equipment that could deliver messages and information to large numbers of people at once. Since the early 1930s, there have been significant advancements and innovations in communication technology, transforming it from a rudimentary form to a modern (mass) form.

The nation of engaging people in mass communication would have remained in the background if the devices were not modern and technologically advanced, making mass communication gadgets as old as mass communication itself. The printing press, created by Johannes Gutenberg, marked the beginning of mass communication.

Through the proliferation of print media like books, newspapers, and magazines, more people could be reached in terms of communication as a result of this invention. With the development of devices like radio and television, the electronics media communication industry emerged.

1.2.2 THE IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY

One cannot overstate the importance of this study due to the valuable and irreversible usage of the mass media and communication tools in all spheres of life. It would result in the integrated narration or description of historical events or facts pertaining to all technical innovations created to facilitate communication because it is a type of historical study.

This research adds to previously completed work on the subject (the emergence of modern communication devices and its consequences for Nigerian journalism). This study would be very helpful to any researcher who is planning to start any kind of research on this subject. Students studying communication would also benefit from this study because it adequately explains the development and modernization of communication technology.

Most history enthusiasts with a scientific curiosity and an awareness of context, examples, and implications can benefit from the study. The background development and changes of contemporary communication devices will be carefully addressed at the conclusion of this study.

1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The earlier research on this topic conducted by different groups has raised more questions for us and prompted us to test our inquisitive brains. With the following goals, we have accepted the challenge to share in the glory of shedding more light on the invention of modern communication devices.

1. To get a thorough grasp and accurate narratives of the history of communication devices.

2. To have a better understanding of the present in relation to communication devices.

3. To be able to provide adequate comparison between assistive communication tools (gadgets) and contemporary ones.

4. The impact of contemporary communication technologies on Nigerian journalism.
