The Causes And Effects Of Diarrhoea Among Children

Abstract

This design took a look on the causes and goods of diarrhea among children in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The exploration was carried out alone with other academic working in the academy. The system used to collect data is questionnaire system, oral interview among NCE graduates in Ovia North East. Results showed that effect of diarrhea leads to fever among children, poor aseptic condition leads to diarrhea among children, eating of inadequately prepared food leads to diarrhea among children, also lack of health education leads to spread of diarrhea, overcrowding can also lead to spread of diarrhea among childrenetc. recommendations included that; government should swing into action by furnishing colorful measures in other to help diarrhea infection in Benin City and Nigeria at large, our water should be treated duly with chlorine before drinking and fur with it.

Preface

Background To The Study

Diarrhea is honored as a major cause of child morbidity and mortality in developing countries( Banda etal., 2007; Gorter etal., 1998; Kosek, Bern, & Guerrant, 2003). It’s the alternate leading cause of death among children under five times of age worldwide( BBS, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics UNICEF, United Nations Children’s Fund, 2007; Larson, Saha, Islam, & Roy, 2006). Global deaths from diarrhea among children progressed lower than five times were estimated at1.87 million in 2004( Boschi- Pinto, Velebit, & Shibuya, 2008; Delicacy, 1987; Chiller etal., 2006; Khan etal., 2004; Larson etal., 2006). Seventy percent of these deaths are concentrated in 15 developing countries. Nigeria is one of these 15 countries and diarrhea is responsible for sixty- nine thousands diarrheal deaths( Boschi- Pinto etal., 2008). Diarrheal complaint is still a major health problem in Nigeria. The government of Nigeria states that diarrhea kills an estimated 25,000 people annually, substantially children( IRIN, 2008). On a diurnal normal, 180- 200 diarrhea cases were admitted to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal conditions Research, Bangladesh( ICDDRB) sanitarium( IRIN, 2008). According to the ICDDRB sanitarium’s statistical surveillance from 2004 to 2008, the total number of children with diarrhea in this sanitarium was 5596. An normal of 1119 diarrhea children( under five) was admitted there annually. Causes of diarrhea were contagions, bacteria and spongers( Mishra, Gupta, & Yadav, 2004). defiled foods play a major part in the circumstance of diarrheal conditions. The transmission of infection occurs by direct contact with the agent, through oral – fecal transmission routes due to poor water quality, hygienic actions, indecorous storehouse of food and shy sanitation practices( Halvorson, 2004). This may be because maters warrant of mindfulness about safe drinking water, hygiene practice, feeding children with aseptic food and defecation practices( IRIN, 2008).

Diarrhea is a complaint that can be averted by avoiding reaching with causative agents, but children under 5 times of age are unfit to cover themselves from these agents. They’re under the care of their maters ; thus the motherly preventative actions for children are veritably important. There are numerous studies showing the prevalence of diarrhea related to motherly actions including hygiene practices, child feeding practices, safe water and defecation practices( Banda etal., 2007; Chiller etal., 2006; Gorter et al, 1998; Khan etal., 2004; Nanan etal., 2003; Osumanu, 2008). maters are the closest persons to children. Their actions toward their children need to be explored, especially their preventative actions. A former study showed that motherly actions were set up to be related to their comprehensions( Pancharuniti, Shiyalap, Dung, & Wongsawass, 2004). The results of Pancharuniti et al study carried out in Vietnam indicated that motherly health beliefs towards diarrheal conditions in children played a pivotal part in their home operation of acute diarrhea. motherly comprehensions on the vulnerability and inflexibility of diarrhea and the benefits and walls to motherly home care for diarrheal children were significantly identified to motherly practices. Although diarrheal complaint is honored as a major problem in Bangladesh, no studies on motherly preventative actions of diarrhea in children and motherly comprehensions have been conducted. thus, this study is carried out in order to explore motherly comprehensions and preventative actions of diarrhea in children. The results of the study will be used to enhance motherly preventative actions of diarrhea in children, which will reduce the prevalence of diarrhea in children under five times of age. It can also fulfill the gap in knowledge of motherly preventative actions in diarrhea of children in Nigeria.
