Introduction

The Study’s History

It is impossible to overstate the importance of education in raising kids. Every society should educate its children since they will contribute to the overall growth and development, lowering the rate of crime and illiteracy in the community. After all, today’s youth will be the leaders of future. In order for this to become apparent, specific traits including abilities, habits, attitudes, moral ideals, and prohibitions against undesirable ones need be ingrained in the person. In order for them to positively impact both the society and themselves, they need get a mix of official and informal education.

Education professionals are very interested in how parents’ socioeconomic situation affects their children’s behavior and aptitude for learning. If such an effect occurs, it is thought to vary significantly depending on how sophisticated the learning contingencies this component offers.

But all we see in the world these days is parents who don’t care about their kids’ education. This is accomplished in a variety of ways, such as the fact that parents no longer stay at home to look after their children’s affairs because of the visitors who depend on them for survival. Some of these kids grow up to cause issues for the family and occasionally for society as a whole since they are not given the right care as children. This is merely a result of their lack of interest in pursuing education. Academic success is also influenced by funding, the availability of resources, and other factors. If pupils from school A perform better academically than those from school B, the issue is likely with the aforementioned issues. Because of the notion of individual differences, children’s academic success may be demotivating even if parents are prepared to raise them. Even though some people are given sufficient care, you still find that they are unable to function in the system, which results in their failure or low academic performance.

One of the things that contributes to students’ low performance in secondary schools is said to be the home. Philosophers have always been interested in the issues of why students succeed or fail in school. The pupils’ upbringing, the state of their homes physically, their genetic make-up, and the teachers’ inadequate teaching methods have all been suggested as potential solutions and have drawn a lot of interest. One of the most important things that affect secondary school students is their socioeconomic background.

With the use of these observations, it was possible to link the low academic achievement of secondary school kids to the attitudes of their parents, their socioeconomic situation, their family size, etc. This study’s primary objective is to investigate the impact of parental socioeconomic status on secondary school pupils’ academic performance in Delta State’s Obubra Local Government Area. In the course of the study, the researcher hopes to anonymously offer answers to the majority of these issues.
