Background of the study

Nigeria, like numerous other African nations, has had its share of popular challenges, but it has also made progress throughout time( Ball, 1971). In the coming times, there have formerly been requests throughout the nation for certain changes and advancements in the way political parties are organized and controlled. numerous people have claimed that Nigeria must apply procedures that cover citizens’ rights to handpick leaders of their picking, as quested in the country’s constitution( Ibodje, 2005).

The establishment of political parties in Nigeria goes back to the late 1940s, when chauvinists were in thepre-independence andpost-independence stages( Yaqub, 2002). Political parties in Nigeria weren’t ideologically acquainted throughout thepre-independence and earlypost-independence ages. Rather, they were geographically concentrated and centered on certain leaders who served as instructors to them. still, in the former 10 times, parties have been registered according on the requirements of the period( Slizbeat, 2012). This was the situation until 1998, when the necessity for parties able of steering Nigeria into a new age of republic after further than fifteen times of military absolutism came apparent. Political parties in Nigeria have evolved through time and continue to play an important part in achieving popular pretensions. Indeed, numerous political parties have evolved during the former fifty times. Nigeria had a two- party system from 1991 to 1993, with the government forming the Social Democratic Party( SDP) and the National Republican Convention( NRC). Following the dissolution of a presidential election in 1993, the military administration declared the parties illegal. Nigeria, on the other hand, regressed to popular governance in 1999. In Nigeria, the restoration of republic in 1999 redounded in a fresh approach to party politics( Nnoli, 1978). The process for registering political parties was liberalized, allowing for further involvement in political conditioning by the general public. In Nigeria moment, there are over fifty registered political parties, albeit only a sprinkle of them have ever won an election. The many political groups that have dominated the political field to the extent that worries of the nation declining into a one- party state have been stated. At both the civil and state situations, opposition parties are moving to join the governing party. Nigeria’smulti-parties must demonstrate a new degree of commitment to the people’s jones and intentions for further introductory and sustainable development as the country’s popular structure and institutions are strengthened( Yaqub, 2002). Nigeria’s general election in 2011 was marred by lapses, and it drew transnational attention to our popular system. It also prompts people to interrogate about our popular system.
