Preface

Background Of Study

Sexual abuse is defined as the involvement of dependent, developmentally immature children in sexual conditioning that they don’t completely comprehend and thus to which they’re unfit to give informed concurrence and/ or which violates the taboos of society.( McDowell,M. 2002).

According to FinkelhorD.( 2003). Sexual abuse is any abuse of a child for sexual pleasure or delectation. It has the implicit to intrude with a child’s normal, healthy development, both emotionally and physically. frequently, sexually victimized children witness severe emotional disturbances from their own passions of guilt and shame, as well as the passions which society imposes on them.

Sinal,S.H.( 2000), refers to child sexual abuse as any sexual act that occurs between as adult or immediate family member and a child and any non consensual sexual contact between a child and a peer.

At the extreme end of the diapason, sexual abuse includes sexual intercourse and/ or its diversions. These behaviours may be the final acts in a worsening pattern of sexual abuse. For this reason and because of their ruinous goods, exhibitionism, stroking and any other sexual contact with children are also considered sexually vituperative. Sexual abuse of children and teenagers is wide in nearly all societies.( Population Report, 1999).

This increase has posed a problem to the existent, society, government and nation laws generally consider this issue of sexual abuse as an important bone .

The government despite their involvement in eradicating this imminence has succeeded in their little way. It’s veritably delicate for utmost people to talk about sexual abuse and indeed more delicate for society as a whole to admit that the sexual abuse of children of all periods including babies happens every day in the Nigeria.
