Nurses’ Perception Of Their Nurse Managers’ Delegation Of Responsibilities In Four Tertiary Hospitals In Enugu State

Delegation of responsibility is one of the vital organizational processes which is ineluctable along with the expansion and growth of a business enterprise( Akrani, 2010). It’s a operation function that can be learned and horned to a fine edge by anyone who’s willing to make some trouble and suitable to get some practice( Curtis & Nicholl 2004). In nursing profession delegation isn’t a new function but it’s getting decreasingly important as the profession gests rapid-fire change. The changes centre on skill blend, structuring how care is delivered and the expanding part of nursers. pivotal to the success of this function is the capability of both the delegator and delegate to perceive their places and assignments rightly.

Okoronkwo( 2005) stated that effective delegation is the organizational process that permits the transfer of responsibility and authority from an superintendent to the inferior. The author goes on to say that it establishes responsibility on the part of the inferior, giving her authority to use her discretion on behalf of the superior. Responsibility is a duty or obligation to satisfactorily perform or complete a task( assigned by someone, or created by one’s own premise or circumstance) that one must fulfill and which has a consequent penalty for failure. Effective delegation of liabilities can be defined as giving someone a task from the delegators practice( Weydt, 2010). It could also be seen as transfer of responsibility, authority, and power to notoriety for the performance of an exertion while retaining responsibility for the outgrowth( Bylgia & Helga, 2012).

not emphasized( Curtis & Nicholl 2004). Before the platoon care model, the care model rehearsed was primary care model where a nanny on each shift had total care responsibility for a small number of cases and there was little need to delegate to others( Powell 2011). Cipriano( 2010) refocused out that delegation remains an underdeveloped skill among nursers and one that’s delicate to measure. therefore delegation is a complex process in professional practice taking sophisticated clinical judgment and final responsibility for patient care. The variability and complexity of each patient situation bear the nanny director’s assessment to determine what’s applicable for inferior to perform( National Council of State Board of Nursing. In this regard, Diamond( 2008) describes the legal responsibility of the nanny director undertaking delegation by noting that it’s the particular and professional responsibility of each guru who delegates exertion to insure that the person to carry out that exertion is trained, competent, and has the necessary experience.

still, the challenges in moment’s plant make lesser demands on nanny administrators to have the effective delegation knowledge and critical thinking chops to effectively delegate to others( Corpus 2006). This compels nanny administrators to be watchful and action- acquainted regarding changes to address nursing practice and delegation( Corpus 2006). therefore, despite the advantages of effective delegation, utmost nanny directors don’t use established pattern and process of delegation to delegate duties. It may be moreover due to lack of acceptable knowledge of the process of delegation or it may be due to the way they perceive delegation generally. In the same way delegates may also have negative gests of delegation grounded on knowledge and former gests . Since perception is what one thinks about commodity, which may be positive or negative depending on the knowledge gained in the history, nursers ’ opinion about outgrowth of delegation of responsibility following established standard of delegation may impact their perception of nanny directors ’ delegation of responsibility. It becomes necessary to study how nursers perceive their nanny directors ’ delegation of responsibility.

Statement of the problem

Delegating duties with shy authority, without supervision, or assigning inexperienced nursers to a task without pairing with educated nanny , have been associated with ineffectivedelegation.Anecdotal reports show that pupil nursers who come for clinical gests and recently signed staff are assigned complex tasks without necessary backing, supervision or monitoring. The experimenter has observed that patient relations perform core nursing conditioning for the case while some of the tasks performed by the nursers were done aimlessly and veritably inadequately. Does this indicate that nanny directors don’t assign liabilities for similar procedures to the inferiors to perform? Or that indeed when assigned, they aren’t supervised

These compliances and reports call for attention. The questions being raised by this study are as follows are nanny directors in these hospitals knowledgeable about the processes of delegation? Do they’ve the chops for effective delegation of liabilities? What are the comprehensions of nursers of their nanny directors ’ delegation of liabilities? This study is geared towards proffering answers to the below questions. Since numerous studies on delegation focuses on the delegators perspective, and the experimenter isn’t apprehensive of any similar study done in Nigeria, the experimenter wants to examine nursers ’ perception of their leaders ’ delegation of responsibility in the four tertiary hospitals in Enugu State.

Ideal Of The Study

The purpose of this study is to determine nursers ’ perception of their nanny directors ’ delegation of liabilities in tertiary health Institution in Enugu State. Specifically, the study is set to

1. Determine nursers ’ perception of their nanny directors ’ adherence to quested guidelines criteria in delegating liabilities.

Significance of the study

The significance of this study in nursing administration can’t be overemphasized because the quality of the nanny director determines the effectiveness and overall work affair of the association. This study will give information on the nursers ’ perception of their nanny directors ’ delegation of responsibility on areas of adherence to quested guidelines criteria in delegation, use of nursing job description, practice of transfer of authority, practice of responsibility, and supervision. Its significance for cases can noway be overemphasized as effective delegation with its consequent advanced caring outgrowth and patient safety will reduce the present high cost of health care and prolonged sanitarium stay of cases. For preceptors, this information may emphasize the need to include some directorial chops capacities similar as effective delegation in the class study for pupil nursers. Eventually the information attained in this study will serve as a source of literature and companion for unborn experimenters as well as empirical references for farther studies.

compass of the study

This study is demarcated to nursers between the species of nursing officers to elderly nursing officers working in tertiary hospitals in Enugu State. It’s demarcated to nursers ’ perception of their nanny directors ’ delegation of liabilities, their directors use of quested guideline/ criteria in delegating liabilities, use of nursing job description in delegating, practice of transfer of authority in delegating responsibility, practice of responsibility in delegating process, directors supervision of delegated responsibility.

Limitation of the study

Like in every mortal bid, the experimenters encountered slight constraints while carrying out the study. inadequate finances tend to stymie the effectiveness of the experimenter in sourcing for the applicable accoutrements , literature, or information and in the process of data collection, which is why the experimenter resorted to a limited choice of sample size. More so, the experimenter will contemporaneously engage in this study with other academic work. As a result, the quantum of time spent on exploration will be reduced.
