A DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT TO SHOW A QUICK GLANCE OF NYSC PLACE OF PRIMARY ASSIGNMENT (PPA)

1.0 INTRODUCTION TO CHAPITRE ONE

The NYSC place of main assignment – PPA is a location where corps members are placed to carry out and complete their service (service year). Their duties include delivering and passing on information to where they serve, which is usually linked to their field of study. The goal of this PPA is to spread knowledge and acquire fundamental skills and training in his/her field of study, which will allow corps members gain work experience. The NYSC Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) is where you will be expected to provide selfless service to your country for a year. PPA is the second stage of your NYSC service year, following your 21 days of orientation at various locations across the country. The orientation camp is the most important component of your NYSC training and preparation for the service year, and it takes place in your primary assignment location.

During your PPA, corps members are expected to be vigilant, to connect with and learn from the locals with humility, and to have a lasting beneficial impression on individuals who come across your path. Work load is assigned to each and every corps member based on his or her field of study and their ability to complete or carry out such a task or work load, to those in the educational sector, Teaching work, in which a number of subjects or courses (secondary or high institution respectively) will be assigned to the corps member, and those in an organization such as Local government, Secretariat, Ministry will be assigned their post or duties every day, usually a day is kept off for the corps members as a day of their CDS, which is done on a weekly basis either on Thursday or Friday depending on the area and the slot at which you are in (i.e. Batch). During the course of this service, the corps members are given a token every month by the head of the department or head in the organization where you serve (i.e. the Boss), which according to the NYSC recommendation and standard seven thousand (7000) is the minimum amount that should be paid to the corps members and any amount higher can be given based on the agreement reached by the corps member and his/her PPA head, which will be signed upon agreement.

1.1 THE STUDY’S BACKGROUND NYSC

The Nigerian government established the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to include graduates in the development of the country, with Brig Gen Johnson Bamidele Olawumi as Director General. Although there is no military conscription in Nigeria, graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program for one year since 1973. This is referred to as the national service year. “Corp” members are assigned to cities far from their hometown, albeit this assignment has recently been tainted by a string of favoritism. They are supposed to mix with people from other tribes, social and family backgrounds, in order to learn about the culture of the indigenous peoples in the area where they are placed. This action is intended to promote national unity and to teach youth about various ethnic groups. There is a three-week “orientation” session at a military-controlled boot “camp” away from family and friends. At the end of the year, there is also a “passing out ceremony” and primary assignment, followed by one month of vacation. The program has also aided in the creation of entry-level jobs for a large number of Nigerian adolescents. An NYSC forum for members was created to bridge the gap between members serving across Nigeria, as well as to provide a space for corpers to share job information and career resources, as well as to apply for loans from the National Directorate of Employment. A huge segment of the country has been harshly critical of the initiative. Members of the NYSC have complained about being underpaid, paid late, or not paid at all. Several NYSC participants have been slain in the locations where they were deployed as a result of religious, ethnic, or political strife. THE STATE OF EBONYI Ebonyi State is a Nigerian state in the country’s eastern area. It is mostly inhabited and inhabited by Igbo. Abakaliki is its capital and largest city. It is one of the six states established by the Abacha regime in 1996. Ebonyi was formed by combining parts of Enugu and Abia states. Ishiagu Federal College of Agriculture is located there. Ebonyi State has 10 primary languages: Afikpo, Mgbo, Izzi, Ezaa, Edda, Ikwo, Kukele, Legbo, Mbembe, Okposi,Uburu, and Oring. These languages are all subdivisions of the Igbo language and are widely spoken in south-eastern Nigeria. Ebonyi is predominantly a farming region. It is Nigeria’s major producer of rice, yam, potatoes, maize, beans, and cassava.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE RESEARCH PROBLEM

The Place of Primary Assignment is supposed to be a place where corps members are sent to dispatch to the environment what they have up-step or what they have to offer related to their field of study, but this is no longer the case; corps members are posted to a Place of Primary Assignment that has nothing to do with what he/she has studied in school. And, due to a lack of access to the areas of primary assignment in the area, the posting section does not place a request to what field the need or can accommodate in their position.

1.3 THE STUDY’S OBJECTIVES

The major goal of this project, as the name suggests, is to create a system or program that can display a snapshot of corps members’ Place of Primary Assignment, with Ebonyi state as a reference. Other examples include: A system that will determine their basic needs (fields of work/study) in each Place of Primary Assignment so that they can be met as desired. A system for keeping track of the activities of the corps member’s Place of Primary Assignment.

1.4 THE STUDY’S SIGNIFICANCE

This research effort is useful for documentation purposes because it will keep track of corps members’ records and activities, as well as the location of primary assignment. This findings will also be used as a teaching tool by students, researchers, and professionals around the country. This system will improve the quality of service provided by the NYSC.

1.5 QUESTION FOR RESEARCH

The researcher developed several research questions to aid her access the new system design while carrying out this research task. To help with this investigation, the following questions were tabulated:

Do you have or know anything about the Place of Primary Assignment where you are putting these corps members?

Do you have any idea what courses or fields of study the corps members will need to take when they are posted? What is the level of living for corps members in the Place of Primary Assignment?

1.6 STUDY OBJECTIVES

Despite the fact that the work was focussed on Ebonyi state as its place of focus, this study covers the entire NYSC corps members Place of Primary Assignment in the nation because it is still applicable to every other state in the nation.

1.6 THE STUDY’S LIMITATIONS

Some of the constraints that have had an impact on the outcome of this work include: Power source: The lack of a steady, efficient, and dependable power supply is also a source of limitation for this project, as it relies only on a source of energy to work. Operation: Because the level of system operation is high, operating and performing any operation on the system requires an expert or a computer literate.

1.7 TERMS AND CONDITIONS

PPA: Place of Primary Assignment – this is where each corps member will serve for one year.

NYSC stands for National Youth Service Corps.

NYSC Orientation: For three weeks, NYSC corps members are stationed in a NYSC orientation camp and live a military-style regulated life.

Databases: A systematically organized collection of computer data that is structured so that it can be retrieved or altered automatically. It is also known as a databank.

A computer program is a set of instructions that instructs the computer on what action to take.

Flowchart: This is a graphical representation of the steps that a computer can take to complete a task.

1.8 ORGANIZATION FOR PROJECT REPORT

This project was broken down into five stages:

The first chapter of this research.

Chapter 2: Literature review on the NYSC PPA and others.

System Investigation and Analysis – Design Methodology, Chapter 3.

System design and implementation are covered in Chapter 4.

Summary and conclusion of Chapter 5.
