DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN AUTOMATED ASSET MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION

 

1.1.0 INTRODUCTION IN GENERAL

 

Information on asset management: Asset management is a business discipline that outlines the management of technical infrastructure for commercial operations. Asset management encompasses managing a firm’s property and investments for both people and the company, with a more technical and result-oriented approach that includes detailed reports and economic predictions on finance and pay.

 

Asset Management Software effortlessly automates the entire asset management process, including asset documentation, stock management, hardware and software management, asset assignment to staff, and category administration. The system administrator creates system users, which allow each staff member to log in with the required authorisation and control assets registered on the system.The admin has complete control over the system.

 

1.2.0 FORMAL INTRODUCTION

 

The first chapter introduces the research work and the problem definition of the research, and the research justification tells us why it is important to research on this topic; it also covers areas like scope and limitation of study, which entails the boundary of this work. The definition of words summarizes what each chapter includes.

 

1.3.0 DEFINITION OF THE PROBLEM

 

This study was conducted to identify some of the issues with traditional asset management systems. Here, the asset manager manages several companies and individuals; he or she accomplishes this through proper documentation and record keeping; these records grow over time, and the ease of use and retrieval of information becomes tedious. Gaining access to sensitive information or a portfolio becomes difficult. Using these traditional methods places several constraints on managers because they must constantly travel about with enormous files in order to have first-hand access to information on demand. These slow down work processes and impede rapid growth in a business.

 

1.4.0 THE OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

 

Given the aforementioned issues, the goal of this project is to create an asset management system that would solely:

 

Automate every asset that an individual or organization manages.

 

Efficient asset file management and a secure conduit through which assets can be stored, sorted, updated, and retrieved at any time.

 

1.5.0 THE JUSTIFICATION OF RESEARCH

 

This research will provide a dependable method of properly managing Springlight assets, decrease lag time in file recovery, and include a search engine to search system archives. Furthermore, it will aid in the representation of structural documents and eliminate the tedium of performing monotonous transactions. This study will also add to the current literature in this field and act as a guide or template for an undergraduate student.

 

1.6.0 METHODOLOGY OF RESEARCH

 

The “design and implementation of an interactive project management system” research project will be a web-based application built on a relational database system (MySQL). The web-user interface will be designed in HTML, CSS, and Jquery, while php (hypertext preprocessor) will be utilized as the server-side script language to connect the interface and the database.

 

1.7.0 THE SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

 

The goal of this research is to create a system that can handle all Springlight assets, both software and hardware. The system will be able to add assets, manage asset categories, add users to the system, delete destroyed assets, register asset vendors, allocate assets to staff, and manage asset categories. A feedback layout will also be included in the system’s design.

 

The system will not include all of the functions of an asset management system in its development, but will instead concentrate on the aforementioned functionalities. If the system’s environment (network/system placed on) is corrupt, the system will not be liable for any data loss.
