A STATISTICAL APPRAISAL ACCIDENT RATE

ABSTRACT

The goal of this project is to assess the rate of road traffic accidents on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road.

Data on the number of recorded road traffic accidents on the Enugu-Onitsha Express road between 1995 and 2002 was gathered and organized into quarters.

The seasonal indexes for the four seasons of the year were calculated using the trend equation, which follows a linear trend with the trend values.

Value projection and forecasting using trend value equations and seasonal indexes were not overlooked.

CHAPTER ONE

1.1          INTRODUCTION

According to the Oxford Learners Dictionary, an accident is defined as something that occurs without a clear cause, usually something unfortunate and undesirable. This means that an accident can occur at any time, anywhere, and at any point. Most accidents are the result of carelessness or recklessness.

A road accident occurs when a large number of vehicles fail to meet the safety requirements of the traffic operation. Road accidents have become a major problem in the country, with many people, both young and old, dying as a result of them.

The accident rate in this state varies from time to time, increasing at the end of the year and decreasing at the beginning of the year, as does the number of fatalities.

The fact that the number of cars has more than doubled during this time period does not imply that the roads have become less safe. Why, then, is the rate of road accidents on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road higher than on other roads in the state?

The answer is that we lack sufficient collective will to put an end to the dangers posed by road accidents once and for all.

Second, our understanding of the situation is limited due to the fragmented nature of its occurrence (is not how many people or families are affected at the same time, and this has caused people to slow down, I don’t care how we behave). It does occur because we

cannot predict when it will occur.

If we have the good will, we should find a way, because we cannot assume that the number of accidents is greater than what man can handle. Once they’ve been identified, solve the problem. Because they are not directly affected, some people are unconcerned. They may not be divers or carousers, but they are affected in some way, and the effects on public migration are not cumulative. Another reason we cannot reduce the rate of accident occurrence on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road to its lowest rate is that the government and financial cost of an integrated road transport system represent one of many cells on the national income.

They sometimes overlook the road transportation system. This means that the decision is essential government by political consideration.

In theory, the number of road fatalities could be reduced to any desired level if sufficient economic and social effort was invested to minimize or reduce it.

According to what has been said about the appraisal of the accident rate on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road, it may occur when a large number of vehicles fail to meet the safety requirements of the traffic role, as can always be seen.

Road accidents are typically caused by a failure of the control system, and understanding how to prevent accidents along the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road is the first step.

What is expected of a large number of vehicles?

There are several factors that contribute to a car accident.

Unsafe Driver: An unsafe driver is one who drives while impaired by alcohol or drugs, is sleepy, is carelessly distracted, is high on marijuana, or is driving with uncorrected vision or hearing.

Driving in hazardous weather conditions is a dangerous driving condition. Road surface that is sleeping, darkness, and narrow roads.

Unsafe Driving Practices include exceeding the speed limit, turning without signaling, and following the car ahead too closely.

Unsafe driving conditions: brake failure, unsafe steering gear, worn-out tires, overloading, and driver without light at night are all major features of a road accident, as is a high proportion of severe multiple injuries. However, the number of motor vehicle accidents may be increasing. In our society, perhaps the state’s scrunching of traffic regulation equipment facilities should be improved.

1.2     BACKGROUND INFORMATION

In the past, during our forefathers’ time, the rate of road accidents was very low because they were uncivilized; there were very few motor vehicles, good roads, and so on.

In this day and age, there is hardly a day that goes by without an accident. Go to the road safety office and see how many people are being hospitalized, as well as the value of goods lost by Enugu – Onitsha Express accident victims, not to mention those who have lost their limes as a result of accidents on this road.

At this point, one might wonder what season of the year or month people usually have accidents, what factors influence the road accident, and how many people may be admitted to the hospital or the value of the accident.

On this road, the crude death rate will not increase from day to day in the future.

All of this knowledge may help the government determine how much to budget for road maintenance or maintenance of road facilities, provision of emergency services, and how to best control and suppress road accidents.

Nowadays, it appears that the likelihood of an accident occurring is higher than in previous decades.

The fact that it is a new invention is one of the main reasons why many people do not use it. Drivers are also illiterate. Lack of vehicle maintenance, bad roads, inexperience with one-way traffic, and so on.

In light of this, I decided to conduct a study on the value of of the accident rate on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road in order to investigate some of the previously mentioned issues.

1.3     AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The goals and objectives of this project are to conduct an eight-year statistical analysis of the accident rate on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road (1995 – 2002).

To determine the rate at which accidents occur, whether the accident rate has increased over time, varies from month to month, or is decreasing, and what season of the year has a higher rate of accident on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road.

Furthermore, this project will aid in predicting the value of road accidents or the number of road accidents that will occur on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road in the future based on historical data.

This scientific knowledge will aid the government in its planning and decision-making.

to control or reduce the number of road accidents on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road in the state to a bare minimum.

Finally, the recommendations made in this work will assist individuals in understanding the rate of accident on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road so that they do not become the next victim.

1.4     SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The researchers decided to narrow the scope of the topic to an assessment of the accident rate on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Road in order to collect accurate data during the limited time available for research and to do more accident work in the future.
