AN EVALUATION OF THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGLISH IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESSES

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background to the study

Because English is the world’s most spoken language, I chose this topic to educate and emphasize the importance of learning a second language. A lot of students finish their courses and become successful professionals, but their poor English skills prevent them from getting better jobs.

We can gain a better understanding of how English became a global language by studying its fascinating history. The world has undergone significant change, and English is widely used as a second language in educational establishments worldwide. It is necessary to mention the ongoing assault of Anglo-Saxon culture on South American civilization. All of our commercial interactions worldwide are conducted in English. The world’s most recent corporate management speaks English. English is used for both interstate and international trade and communication.

1.2 An Overview of the Issue Working people frequently interact with people who speak a different language. Negative English speakers miss out on crucial negotiation opportunities.

Because they believe that the majority of people with whom they conduct business in other countries understand English and that interpreters can be hired if they do not, many English speakers do not wish to learn other languages. Due to a lack of proficiency in foreign languages, English speakers are at a disadvantage in negotiations. The study’s 1.3 objective is to inform about the significance of English in international business and the ways in which a lack of knowledge of this language affects negotiations. People who do not learn English miss out on many opportunities, not only in business but also in study, tourism, travel, and employment. The main goal of this topic is to get the reader to learn or improve their English, as learning a global language opens up all kinds of business doors and opportunities.

Specific Goals Each unit’s goal is to provide the reader with relevant information about various topics related to the main subjects, such as the Importance of English in International Business. I will discuss the following chapters:

The first chapter is titled “The History of English as a Business Language,” and in it, I’ll talk about how English came to be a global language and how it got there.

The significance of international business and important concepts of English as a lingua franca are discussed in the second and third chapters, respectively.

The final chapter is an interview with a CELEX director in which the reader will learn his thoughts on the significance of business English.

The goal of this thesis is to inspire the reader to learn more about English and its significance in life.

The location of my research is CELEX, an English Study Center, where I will gather information about the director’s views on the significance of English. Guayaquil is the city with the population necessary to conduct a study on the significance of business English.

Argument for the Hypothesis:

English, in my opinion, is the business language of the world. Learn English if you want to compete globally in business or any other career. Having inadequate English language skills can lead to communication issues, incompetence for global business, or inability to conduct international business.

People who are nearing the end of their careers view English as merely a university graduation requirement rather than a global language that facilitates business expansion.

People who want to build strong business relationships with people all over the world have access to the English language.

Because we live in a globalized world where effective English language skills are required for all kinds of negotiations with foreign countries, I hope I can demonstrate how important English is in all aspects, but especially in business.

The Effect on the Theory:

Numerous people have pondered the significance of language throughout history. “Language is the light of the mind,” said John Stuart Mill.

Implications in Practice:

I agree with that because humans can communicate with one another in any language. It means that we can express our thoughts, feelings, and knowledge. One’s perception of reality is shaped by language, as are one’s thoughts and feelings.

Implications in theory:

“The term lingua franca originated in the Mediterranean region in the Middle Ages among crusaders and traders of different language backgrounds,” notes Richards et al. (1996:214).

Implications in Practice:

An old term that refers to a phenomenon that was part of the linguistic repertoire used on a large number of multilingual people in Europe at the time is “lingua franca.” It has attracted a lot of attention recently from all areas of linguistic inquiry because it is currently the most widely used language for intercultural communication in terms of frequency and reach.
