Attitudes And Perception Of Students Towards The Study Of Economics In Nigerian Secondary Schools

Chapter One

Preface

Background Of The Study

Economics is a social wisdom which is concerned with the product, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. The term economics originates in Ancient Greek( oikonomia,” ménage operation, administration”) from( oikos,” house( nomos,” custom” or” law”), inferring” house( hold) regulations.” Political frugality was the subject’s original name, but economists in the late nineteenth century proposed the term” economics” as a shorter expression for” profitable wisdom” that also avoided a defined political- interest connotation and sounded analogous to” mathematics,”” ethics,” and so on( Eze 2015).

The content is concerned with the geste and commerce of profitable agents, as well as the functioning of husbandry. To this end, a abecedarian text difference between microeconomics and macroeconomics is made. Microeconomics is the study of the geste of the frugality’s abecedarian corridor, similar as individual agents( similar as families and businesses, or buyers and merchandisers), and requests, as well as their interconnections. Macroeconomics is the study of the overall frugality and the factors that impact it, similar as severance, affectation, profitable growth, and financial and financial policy( Eze 2015).

Pupil beliefs and stations can either help or obstruct literacy( Yara, 2009). multitudinous variables may impact scholars’ stations toward wisdom and social lores( Economics). multitudinous studies(e.g., Wilson 1983; Soyibo 1985; Berg 2005; Adesoji 2008) indicate that scholars’ positive stations toward wisdom are largely identified with the fact that, in general, the station of Nigerian scholars toward the introductory lores and social lores tends to decline in the following order Biology, Economics, Physics, and Mathematics( Defias 1995).

Halladyna & Shanghnessy( 1982) and Adesoji( 2008) linked a number of factors that impact scholars’ stations toward wisdom and social lores( Economics), including tutoring styles, schoolteacher stations, maternal influence, gender, age, pupils’ cognitive styles, career interests, social views of wisdom, social counteraccusations of wisdom( Economics), and achievement. The studies indicate that there’s a link between station and educational approaches, as well as between station and accomplishment; and that station conditions may be used to prognosticate achievement.

Statement Of The Problem

According to Keeves( 1992), stations toward wisdom and social lores, including economics, are generally favorable, demonstrating wide support for wisdom and scientific education. also, there’s thickness in the average degree of station toward economics and general wisdom across nations and age groups within a country. still, in countries with a high degree of specialized and artificial development, the data indicated a more neutral station toward wisdom. Boys, on average, had a more favorable station toward wisdom, the study revealed. According to Kempa & Dude( 1974), learners’ enthusiasm in wisdom is related to their achievement in wisdom. Olatoye( 2001) concluded from these data that scholars’ stations toward economics had a considerable direct influence on their success in the discipline. According to Adesokan( 2000), despite economics’ status as a scientific content, scholars continue to have inimical views about the subject, performing in poor tutoring performance and low registration.

Objects Of The Study

The primary ideal of this study is to assess the stations and perception of scholars towards the study of economics in nigerian secondary seminaries. Specifically but not limited to, other objects of the study are

To determine the significance of economics as a subject in Nigerian secondary seminaries.

ii. To determine the factors that affects scholars choice of economics in Nigerian secondary seminaries.

iii. To determine if there’s any significant influence of scholars ’ station towards economics on academic performance.

Exploration Suppositions

The following null suppositions will be tested in this study

Ho1 Economics as a subject isn’t important in Nigerian secondary seminaries.

Ho2 There’s no significant influence of scholars ’ station towards economics on academic performance.

Significance Of The Study

The study’s findings are significant as it’ll prop Economics preceptors in developing new literacy gests for scholars and reorganizing being literacy gests in ways that pique scholars’ attention. It would be salutary for preceptors to develop a practice of perfecting on old tutoring ways and maximizing their operation of applicable, current, and applicable educational accoutrements and handbooks. also, this study may prop scholars in developing a more positive station regarding the subject’s study. also, both the government and parents would profit from an examination of their separate places, which would be underscored in the suggestion column.

Eventually, this study will go further in helping experimenters with further information on the goods of social media on pupil’s academic performance.

Compass Of The Study

This study will be concentrated on the stations and perception of scholars towards the study of economics in nigerian secondary seminaries. Specifically, this study will be concentrated on determining the significance of economics as a subject in Nigerian secondary seminaries, determining the factors that affects scholars choice of economics in Nigerian secondary seminaries and determining if there’s any significant influence of scholars ’ station towards economics on academic performance.

preceptors and scholars of economics in named secondary seminaries will serve as enrolled actors for the check of this study.

Limitations Of The Study

The experimenter encountered minor obstacles when conducting the study, as with any mortal bid. The significant constraint was the failure of literature on the subject due to the nature of the converse, so the experimenter incurred more fiscal charges and spent further time sourcing for applicable accoutrements , literature, or information and in the data collection process, which is why the experimenter resorted to a limited choice of sample size. likewise, the experimenter did this disquisition alongside other academic conditioning. likewise, the sample size was limited because only a many repliers were chosen to answer the exploration instrument, thus the results can not be generalized to other secondary seminaries outside the state. Despite the constraints encountered during the exploration, all rudiments were minimized in order to give the stylish results and make the exploration effective.
