The function of the journalist has altered with the arrival of the digital age.Since the advent of information and communication technologies, including the internet, it is now feasible to learn about events without physically attending them. around the internet, journalists may report on news from all around the world. Technology and communication have always evolved together throughout history, and recent technological advances like the internet have led to a new degree of growth in the study of communication. Over time, the way that humans communicate has changed thanks to a number of revolutionary discoveries and technologies. Written communication originated in the ancient world with the development of pictographs, or the first written communication. These carvings were permanently affixed to stone.

 

Transferring documents from one location to another and maintaining language uniformity over large distances were made possible by the discovery of paper, papyrus, and wax, which culminated in the invention of the printing press in the 15th century. 1.2 Definition of the Issue

 

The manner that journalists work and how stories are generated and shared have undoubtedly altered as a result of social media. Social media and online journalism provide users much more control, giving readers the chance to question the conventional function of information delivery. Due to their greater accessibility and reach, new media have forced traditional media to change.

 

In order to achieve this, the research compares radio stations and social media platforms on the evaluation of news content utilizing Twitter and Splash F.M. Ibadan.

 

1.3 Study’s Objectives

In order to find out whether University of Ibadan students like Twitter over Splash FM.

2. To investigate what factors lead students to prefer Twitter over Splash fm and why if they do.

3. To identify some of the issues social networking platforms, notably Twitter, are facing as sources of information.

1. How much do students at University of Ibadan prefer Twitter to Splash FM?

2. If Twitter is a preference among students, what elements contribute to this and why?

3. What drawbacks do social media platforms as a source of information have?

 

1.5 Study’s Purpose

 

This study’s emphasis has been reduced to the University of Ibadan students. Before designing and distributing a research instrument (questionnaire), the demographic characteristics of the students, including their academic standing, age, course of study, gender, marital status, and other factors, will be examined. is an effort to determine the extent of communication effectiveness as a result of technological progress.

 

1.6 Importance of the Research

 

For journalists, media outlets, news organizations, editors, lecturers, and students in the field of journalism and mass communication as well as for other researchers who wish to pursue the same study in the future, this study will be of utmost significance.

 

The study will give journalists advice on how to compose online stories and assist them in finding relevant material by utilizing social media networking tools effectively. Additionally, it will assist journalists in communicating with their audience and determining their informational demands. The study will also encourage journalists who haven’t used social media much to start doing so in order to be more productive.

 

1.7 Study Restrictions

 

The research project has a brief duration.

Another obstacle is stress brought on by extracurricular activities in the classroom.

Because the work is so fresh, there are also little materials available.

Social media: The term refers to Internet-based social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Wikipedia, YouTube, and other similar platforms that were created to specifically help people share their opinions and stay in touch with friends, family, and well-wishers.

 

Writing, editing, and distributing information to the public via radio, television, newspapers, and magazines is known as journalism.

 

Modern journalism refers to the new era in journalism where computers and the internet are used in practically every aspect of the profession.
